Monday I got stuck into doing a few more layers of gold spray paint onto the mini 3D prints of the nine My Girls Richie recently printed for me. Then I got cracking with the Shombie Bus Charity Auction No.4. I put the catalogue together in 1 hour as Shombie decided to do it before he goes back to Germany on Thursday. So that went well.
I was picked up by Shombie and his crew to take them to Franschoek to see Paul at Colmant and then to the village for a nice lunch.
I only got home at 5pm as there were numerous STOP and GO’s along the way home. I should of Wazed it, like I did when we went there but, as Uncle Stuart says, “Hey Ho.”
Showing Shombie and his gang Franschoek.
Shombie got his order in of the best Cap Classic in the Cape.

Nice little restaurant in the heart or Franschoek.
It was nice to chill with Joanne after two hectic days of hosting. My head was also so filled with German as that was all I heard and spoke.
Joanne figured out why we had no electricity for the entire day. I forgot to pay the bill. So, as I type this to you on Tuesday, we are still without electricity. We managed to get a quick warm shower this morning, but all the battery banks are empty and all I can do is type until my laptop dies. Good excuse to go do some studio work.
That I did and got stuck into a small clean up. I forgot I ordered hundreds of t-shirts that were sitting in boxes under my spray paint shelf. I need to come up a great idea to sell or distribute them.
Midday Tuesday, Angelique asked me to describe why I paint over existing paintings. Here is the story I wrote.
Hello,
Ok in 2011, I made the first step to reduce the number of originals I painted on canvas and focus on prints as a source of income. The Main reason was to cut the supply on the primary market which will fuel the secondary market.
I also stopped painting my traditional works and started collaborations with brands like Vespa, Desmond Tutu. ABSA Cape Epic and DJ Black Coffee, to produce a number of unique originals and print.
This allowed me to supplement my income and cut down doing the trees and Candy works, which I continued to do, but only on commission and a generous sum of money.
In 2018 I ramped this up a bit and stopped completely, except for commissions. So, from 2019 I have painted only a handful of paintings.
In 2020, thanks to COVID, I shut down completely 100% and focused on prints, ,merchandise and smaller “Dinky Works”. I.E. 10 x 10cm works on canvas. It was a bit naughty as I decided to “Not Paint” the trees and candy pieces, but I justified it with price and kept the price low.
In 2022 Richard decided after getting a commission or two to NOT buy new canvasses and to paint over old artworks like the great masters you to.
So, the painting you see is in fact the only paining I have painted over twice. This is a first time ever. It was originally painted and called “I’m Shy.”
Then in 2023 I was asked by Mmusi Maimane from BOSA South Africa to create a logo for the political campaign which I did.
Then in 2024 I decided to paint the famous Candy Ana on it so that it could finally become a master piece.

Tuesday afternoon the electricity came back on just before all the food defrosted.
Making some NOM NOM chips for the kids.
NOM NOM. Chef Richard at it again.
Tuesday evening, we hosted Shombie’s 4th Auction this year to his German friends and clients and supporters of Kids Pot in Khayelitsha. We only got to bed around 11pm.
Wednesday I worked out how much it would cost in gold to cast the Mini Bronze My Girls. Here are a few pictures.
Measuring the volume of the mini Ana bronze.
Then the length.
Measuring the volume again.
Ta Daaaaaa.
Richie and Victoire popped in for a quick visit.
Then we all prepped the auction items we did Tuesday for Showbie’s auction, as he was taking them all back with him to distribute in Germany.
Wednesday evening Shombie invited Joanne and I to join him and his wife Anna for a nice supper at The Cod Father in Camps Bay. Shombie also invited Francois. What a lovely man with lots of stories. He is the guy who flies those Huey Helicopters above our heads in Cape Town. One of them humans that is a wealth of knowledge. Such a pleasure for Joanne and me to chat to him over supper.
Joanne, Francois Marais, Shombie and his wife Anna enjoying life.
Thursday was town day then Somerset West to see Ruan at The Lost Wax Foundry, a quick haircut, then off to see Spook and Erica for a quick visit.
Meet Ruan, the man himself.
Messing about, Richard Scott style.
Weird how I spotted this in Somerset West after eating out last night with Francois.
It was really great to see them after so many years. Erica was my cycle coach for the three Cape Epic’s I did and one of them I did with Spook, her husband in 2017. Believe it or not, I have not been on a bicycle since.
Then off to pick Joanne up and head home to pack for Paternoster for my Birthday weekend. It was 2 weeks early, but it was the only time Joanne could book a specific want and experience. Remember we get each other a WANT, a NEED, and an EXPERIENCE for each other’s birthdays.
She booked Paternoster, so I was wondering if she happened to crack a cancellation to Chef Kobus van der Merwe's restaurant Wolfgat. You have to wait up to six months to get a table. She wouldn’t let me know until Saturday morning.
So here is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in pictures:
First picture of the Paternoster weekend in Dianne Heesom-Green's Studio.
Enjoy each other company on the deck of the restaurant Die See Kat. (The Sea Cat)
We ordered 3 starters; Snoek samoosa's, crumbed calamari and deep fried and crumbed baby sardines. The sardines were the best. Although Joanne preferred the Snoek samoosa's.
Got the pic of the "See Kat". I think this piece was created at Nieu-Bethesda.
Get the sea pic :).
After lunch we walked the beach in search of a good Margarita. Hmmmmm, we did a Richard Scott and talked our way into a really fancy restaurant called Leeto. Not sure they were too happy with our flip flops.
Magnificent view. Great menu. But they were fully booked for the evening. Although Joanne thinks that our dress code was off.
Cheers to life. Cheers to spending every free moment with Joanne, the love of my life.
R175.50c later. Yikes.
Saturday morning with Joanne on a walk to learn how to forage. Yes, you guessed it. When I woke up Saturday morning, Joanne gave me my birthday present. 1. A two hour walk with Rupert Koopman a Botanist, to learn about the flora and fauna of the West Coast and how to forage for food, and 2. A lunch at Wolfgat with Chef Kobus van der Merwe. What a super duper surprise and treat.
Enjoying the view on our walk.
We learnt so much. For Example, that grey-brown mess is the home of the Karoo Bush Rat. I walk past them so often. So, now I know.
One of my favourite succulent's known as the Caput Medusae.
Our tour guide Rupert Koopman.
The quite before the storm.
We did not have time to change, so here we are in our hiking clothes.
Bread was next level.
Bokkombotter (I think), to go with the bread.
Heirloom carrots, geranium, pigeon pea miso on Cabbage with mebos and wild garlic masala.
Raw mussel.
Warm mussel.
Water melon with macadamia and heirloom peppers.
A quick maize meal snack to cleanse the palate.
Nom Nom.
YES, got the pic.
Until next Sunday
