Richard Scott Blog - 15th October 2023

Monday and Tuesday, I was sick in bed. I managed to drag myself out of bed both days around 11am and get on with it. I got a quote from the glass guys to cut odd shaped oval glass for the experimental Candy Logs I’m playing with in the studio. So I spent most of Monday afternoon doing the mock ups for that. Tuesday, I managed to finish 3 of the Richard Scott My Girl Wallets. I need those in time for Plettenberg Bay in December.

The 300 bottles of High Road wine arrived Tuesday afternoon. Were gonna Richard Scott-ify them for our launch in Plett in December.

I was so hungry Tuesday night after not eating much for 2 days that I got the munchies. Joanne made me my favorite layered cheese, tomato and onion sandwich. It was nom nom.

The High Road Wine in the ally way. So nice to have such cool business partners. Thanks Les, thanks Selwyn.

Nom Nom, thinly sliced cheese and tomato with lots of salt and white pepper.

Wednesday I was in court for that stolen painting. I was advised by my Advocate to walk away as the Defendant was going to ask for a postponement and that was a tactic to delay and delay and push up my costs. So, I walked away. That still means the painting is STOLEN and unpaid for.

R85 000 in legal fees and and a loss of R210 000 in a painting. Blah.

After the trial I picked up the car from Joanne's office as we took an uber down to court and headed back to the Gallery. I was 3 days behind in admin and banking, so I got stuck into that. Quite a challenge when you are coming off the end of 2 days under the weather. Nonetheless, I got on with it. I also had a good catch up with Andre over a beer. It should have been a stiff Tequila, but beer in a brewery is good. Then it was off to pick Joanne up and head back home. Wednesday afternoon I got everything ready for the meeting with Shaun on Thursday for the Dalla Cia Bullicante launch in a few weeks’ time.

Hanging with Joanne in her office.

Joanne, Advocate Mark Harrington and my Lawyer Jeff Holzberg of Brian Lutzno.

The artwork in question: Candy Us, 200 x 100cm.

Thursday's meeting with Sean went well, we are looking for direction. We are getting there. Shaun suggested I go into pattern making. Let’s see.

Experimenting with open space and dots

Super Human Shaun getting stuck in.

Shaun has an awesome talent for fashion and designs his own clothes.

Dotty Scotty.

Trying some radical stuff.

Catching up with Joanne. I miss her so much every day.

Joanne treated me to a nice light lunch at On the Rocks in Blaawberg on our way home. I love you babe.

Joanne was off Friday as Angelina had her Valedictory. I.E. Last day at school before she writes final exams. It was really cool to see Angelina celebrate her last day at school after 12 years.

Whooop Whooop. Congratulations my dear wonderful daughter Angelina Scott. Top 10 in the Grade and Number one in Dance for the whole grade.Joanne and I are super proud of you.

Got the pic. Dance Trophy. Top in Dance in the grade. Angelina Scott 2023.

After the celebrations we headed off to hang with Johan and Xaini in Kommetjie for the evening. Angelina kicked us out the Beach House as she wanted to have a 18th birthday party, so we obliged. We got to Johan around 2 and chilled a bit before we made some German Worst. Johan shared his German Grandmas recipe with us. It was super cool to make. I can’t remember when last I made sausage. Oh hang on, it was with Angelina and Neil Jewel back in 2019. We had a good time.

How long is a piece of string? Johan showing Joanne how long she must cut the string for the Worst.

You know the drill.

Nice to rekindle an old friendship after 20 years. Thanks Johan. HUG

Cheers to the smoker. Worst in the smoker. Kameel doring wood smoked.

Early Saturday morning. The Worst has cured. We had some for breakfast and Johan gave me a good stash to bring home. NOM NOM

Saturday morning Joanne woke up Ill. The bug is going around. Joanne rested while I popped out with Johan to Scarborough to forage for mussels. We got a nice catch and headed back home to Kommejtie to cook them and shell them. Johan gave me a pickling recipe and here I am back home now on Saturday afternoon about to pickle the mussels.

Nothing beats foraging. Only I missed Joanne with us.

Misty Cliffs. Don't you wish you could live here, like forever.

Steaming the mussels, beards and kelp and winkles and all.

The smell was delicious. Mussels, mussels and more mussels.

We got home and the house was in one piece. Joanne snuck upstairs to rest a bit more and I’m sitting here typing to you.

The kids all hung around around the lounge and we had Birthday Cake and the kids stayed up late to watch the Rugby.

Sunday the 15th October was Angelina's 18th Birthday. We all go up early and celebrated with her at breakfast.

Happy 18th Birthday Angelina.

And were off.

I then dropped Angelina off and Joanne and I read books and binge watched Netflix. It was nice to rest up.

Until next week.
