Richard Scott Blog: 5th March 2023

After the kids all left on Sunday, Joanne and I settled into some back gammon and had an early supper. We had the left overs from the Sunday’s Roast Beef lunch.

Simple food for simple people

Dean decided to treat Daniella to a romantic supper and asked us to vacate the house so we walked down to Forneria, the local Italian and had a glass of wine and a Foccacio bread.

So its March already and this is my 43rd Blog. 9 more and it will be a year already. I send this blog out to 419 people as we speak and each week about 1 to 2 of you unsubscribe. Thank you to all the guys who have hung on and read the blog.

So its Monday and I’m sitting in a our usual weekly meeting on a Monday morning and decided to use the 5 minute break to get the Blog going. Angelique and I are meeting to update the shop. I spent R7500 on a shop theme. I decided to take the plunge as its a great shop theme and the shop looks so sexy now. I’ve also decided to offer Free Shipping. I’ll keep that open for the month of March and see where that take us.

I finally got round to hanging up the blue piece by the pool only to sell it to a collector on Thursday. Blah.

Want one?

Joanne and I made lamb chops for supper with mash potato and we decided to make some pickled fish for the week to snack on. Joanne said it was the best I’ve ever made.

You wont belIive it but on Monday I went through the pile of reject prints in the studio and tore up about 50. I did keep 20 to recycle into Silver Heart Graffiti pieces but even Frans’s eye were wide open when I tore them.

I went for some golf lessons with Vernon Monday afternoon. He is completely undoing my old swing. It feels very weird, as I use to play golf as a kid and up to when Richie was born. That’s about 20 years that Vernon is trying to undo. Apparently I will make a great golfer once he is done with me. I can’t wait. I really really want to do this. It’s my next dream and goal in life to become a good golfer.

Meet Vernon. He’s a great guy and a good golf coach.

Tuesday, like Friday morning I woke up feeling like I was drugged. I felt so drowsy. Very weird. To top it off Selwyn arranged a breakfast with Paul Harris at Ellerman House, so I got up and showered and headed into town on my Vespa. It was such an honor to meet with Paul and his lovely wife Jeanne. We had a long breakfast and spoke about art and business. After breakfast Paul and Jeanne gave Selwyn and myself the royal tour of Ellerman House and his art collection.

Well I have to say I’ve had some seminal moments in my art career and life, and meeting Paul and his wife Jeanne was right up there in the top 5.

I’ve never ever in my life seen such a beautiful display of art and no expense was spared. I even got to see the Angus Taylor wine collaboration installation he did with Paul. It’s a piece about 5m x 3m and it comprises about 250 blocks. Each block is a soil sample of every wine farm in South Africa that was taken and laid out and mounted in a frame with the GPS co-ordinate on the wine farms name “In case they change over the years” Paul told me.

So remember Tuesday 28th of February. It was a seminal moment in my life and art career.

The look on my face says its all.

I went home exhausted and slept the rest of Tuesday.

Wednesday was shop day this week. I was so far behind and using the same excuse as everyone else “It’s the end of the financial year”. So I sat at the shop and got all that done. Death by Tax. LOL I did manage to go see Simba at Robin Sprong to discuss Phase 2 of the Richard Scott My Girls Wallets. I also ran about 5 different errands around town. I dropped off my Ignatius Marx Elephant pastel at FRAMED for glass and had a nice long chat to Idille and Ashley about life.

I also started the CO-LAB with Rocket Espresso South Africa. If you purchase one of their domestic machines in the month of March you get a complimentary set of my Richard Scott Espresso or Cappuccino cups. Google Gourmet Coffee Roaster.

Thanks Marisa and Gourmet Coffee Roasters.

Robin and Simba weaving their magic. Two wonderful men.

Thursday, I had to get some work done. I also committed to donating 200 prints for the Investec South African Ladies Golf Open which is taking place next week. Each of the players in the PRO-AM will get a Richard Scott Candy Golf Day Print.

 My Candy Golf Day.

The printing, signing and packing of 200 prints took both Thursday and Friday, Frans and I still found the time to pack and spray a few prints that were being shipped to collectors around the world.

I also decided to recycle a damaged Road Works series sign. I got Hendrik to scuff it up a bit on the road and then sand out the one dent. I need to find someone who has a gun and shoot some holes into it to make it look really cool.

Mahdis popped into the studio. She wants to sell some of my Road Signs and Graffiti series work in her gallery on the corner of Wale and Buitenkant Street. I thought the look and feel of the area would suit the Road Work Series. So watch this space and pop in.

Friday was also a shop day but only till 12 when I fetched Joanne and we were off to Greyton for the weekend with Tony and Alison.

We got to Greyton at 2pm and checked in and popped down to the pub. The Old Potters Inn. We had a few beers and walked around the town and headed home. We booked in at Abbey Rose restaurant and met Pierre and his wife. I can highly recommend the food. Joanne and I shared the Lamb Shank and it was as good as the one we had in Sutherland. We wondered home and ate a whole Panetone Cake for dessert and went to bed.

We stayed in the east side of Greyton this time. The house is old but suffers from damp. We made the best of it.

Saturday morning we got up and had a nice cup of coffee on the deck. I made some bacon butties and Tony is from the north of England like myself so we relate and tell similar jokes and eat similar food. After coffee and a bacon buttie we headed off to the Saturday morning market. We filled our tummies with the worlds best spring rolls and samoosas and then proceeded to fill our bags with fresh stuff for the weekend.

Here is our weekend away in photos:

Tony Joanne and Alison at the Greyton Saturday Market

I love you Tony Mellon, you make me laugh like a kid.

We woke up early Sunday morning and I lit the fire as I always do. Just cos I can. I made some toast and we ate it with cheese and marmalade from the Greyton market. We enjoyed it in front of a Monkeys wedding. It was so beautiful to sit and watch the rain and green garden.

Then it was time. You know that moment when you are on holiday and its time to flick a switch and get back in to going home. It’s a bitter sweet moment as you leave your holiday paradise and head home. You don’t want to do it but there is no place like home.

We had a quick bite to eat at Via’s and then we were off. We said our goodbyes and hit the road. There was an unusual amount of people on the road so we took it slow. We managed to sneak in a Sunday Family lunch by enticing the kids with Mariou’s Forneria pizza at the beach house. 15 minutes before we got home we ordered them and bingo, Sunday lunch was a success. Angelina was missed as she has a English project she needed to finish.

So here I am finishing off the blog.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening and an even better week. Until next Sunday.

P.S. It just started to rain as I was about to post this Blog and I went to go stand and watch the rain and I noticed my Bernard Matemera was shedding a few happy tears.
