Richard Scott Blog - 27th April 2025

Last Monday was Easter Monday. We got up nice and early and went for a nice long hike up table mountain with Angelina and a few of her university friends. We walked up to De Villiers Dam from Constantia Neck.  I didn’t realize that walk was so popular. It was nice to get out and get fit and spend quality time with Angelina. Joanne and I were both a bit rusty. It was awesome, nonetheless.

And were off, Joanne, Kathrine, Chloe, Shen and Angelina.

Getting there slowly with my dear wife, the love of my life.

We live in such a beautiful town.

Joanne and Angelina enjoying the sun. It was rather nippy up there.

Forgot my Richard Scott stickers.

Angelina and Katherine swimming. We thought about it, but only for a split second. When we were young.

There are those beautiful and majestic trees on the way to Hout Bay.

Monday afternoon was nice to have a rest and read a book on the couch. I started reading GUT by Giulia Enders.

It was one of them nice lazy afternoons you know no one is gonna bother you on Easter Monday.

Tuesday was another clay day, but first, time to catch up on admin. Yes you guessed it at Starbucks around the corner from Mervyn’s studios, where I’m making my clay vases.

I am on a bit of a mission to collect as many paper Starbucks cups, as I have an idea to create a cool artwork.   Then it was off to Mervyn.

I managed to keep the nice latest vase under the correct moisture drying conditions. I went in every day and was relieved to see no cracking.

Vase number four did crack, so there was some motivation to start another one.
Wednesday I made what seemed to be a herculean effort to stay at the studio and focus on what needed to get done in Melkbos.

Candy Swinger, 75 x 75cm. One of my all-time top 10 best works.

The studio and staff run itself, but I felt I was neglecting the space. I got stuck into printing and signing a series of prints for a client.

Thursday I decided to work from home again but could not resist the calling of the clay. I did need to check in and do a moisture test. Or at least that was my excuse.  All was well.

As I type this on Saturday I realise I did not take many pictures this week. So, here’s to a short blog.

Friday was another studio day as Joanne worked from home.

I did the usual catch up with the staff and got stuck into ticking the boxes off. We did pop out to check on the clay vases and do some weekend shopping then, home as we wanted to make sure it was another quiet weekend reading books.

Showing Joanne my 2nd Happy space.

Smile.

Joanne and I are loving this green at Mervyn. He certainly has an eye for "What's the next black".

It was not to be, as I got a special request Friday night which kept me busy in the studio all day Saturday. I did manage to surface and forage for some tomatoes with Joanne in the vegetable garden.
I worked quite late in the studio. Something I haven’t done for ages.

Joanne and I tried to watch a movie but didn’t last long. After all we did do our first 5km road run that morning.

Sunday was up early for a beach run. After that, it was breakfast with Dean and Daniella, as it was Dean's 21st Birthday today. Happy 21st Birthday Dean. The whole family are coming later for pizza and NOMM NOMM Chocolate Cake.

Sunday morning beach run. It's another beautiful day in Africa.

Until next week.
