Richard Scott Blog: 23th April 2023

Hello

Joanne and I decided to fast for 3 days or 72 hours. Monday to Wednesday. Monday was really tough but it got easier on Tuesday and Wednesday. I've always wanted to go to Dr Karalis in Hermanus to fast for 10+ days. One day I will get to do it, but for now it's 3 days max.

So admin was the order of the day on Monday. The main aim for the week was to finish off the custom Candy Vespa for a client in Johannesburg.

Strangely enough 3 clients sent me pictures on my art installed in their homes. It's always nice to see your art hanging and being enjoyed. Robin Sprong, who I have partnered with on wallpaper, also sent me a few photos of a newly installed piece. The subject was Candy Ana. Who would of thought.

Zoomed out.

I thought I would share a photo with you of a few artworks hanging up in my studio. The studio is a real mess at the moment. There is so much going on.

We also managed to finish off the one box that contains 2 paintings going to clients in Arabella near Hermanus.

Do you have a Richard Scott "Pack it like a BOSS" piece in your collection?

Tuesday, I popped into the gallery and town to run some errands and meet some people. I managed to start the first sketch for the REFLECTIONS exhibition I want to have later this year.

Applying some spray paint with a brush. I love this new colour.

I have been wanting to do this series for over 10 years believe it or not.

I also popped in to see Simba once again at Robin Sprong to collect the 3rd draft of the Richard Scott wallets that I will launch soon.

I also completed another Johannesburg 24karat gold leaf print. I first print out the piece and then apply 24 karat gold leaf to the letters Johannesburg. Afterwards I draw in and colour in all the buildings that are iconic to the city at the bottom and then I stamp and sign it.

While I was at the gallery I decided to mask off the front mudguard of the Vespa I'm painting Candy. The client also wanted the front mudguard done in Candy so I got stuck into that. It was fun to do.

The first few stripes get sprayed on and then I remove the tape and hand paint the remaining stripes.

I also managed to complete 5 new magnetic pieces this week. There is a beautiful pink and powder blue one.

Wednesday night, Joanne and I broke our 72 hour fast with some yummy chicken broth we made Chinese style. We both only had half a bowl and it was too much. Our stomachs shrunk a lot more than we thought.

Thursday, I headed to town with Joanne. I had a few meetings in the morning. I ran some errands as I usually do. The day passed quickly and I was on my way to collect Joanne at 2:30 before I knew it. I treated her to a nail treatment at the spa and then we headed to the Chinese shop to buy a few bits and bobs. I got a nice big bag of green tea and lots of other Chinese items that you dont get in Checkers.

Friday, we finally finished the custom Candy Vespa and sent it off to David to get the mudguard attached.

Saturday morning Joanne and I woke up and decided to go for a drive to Riebeek Kasteel for lunch and to collect some olive oil from Kloovenburg wine farm. While we were there Joanne overheard a staff member say they have a guest house on the farm so Joanne looks at me and I look at her and bingo, we decided to stay in Riebeek Kasteel for the afternoon and evening. We went to 2 different restaurants and did wine tasting and explored the town on foot. We found a quaint sweet shop that sells all the sweets that were around when we were kids. I've never seen a shop like it. It was so cool.

We had an early night and got up early and headed home via the 8FEET restaurant for a complementary breakfast that came with the guest room.

It's Sunday now and 2 of the 4 kids came for lunch. We made Vetkoek and curry mince. It went down well and the kids loved it.

Until Next Sunday

Monday was Easter and I learnt about “Luck and Risk” from the book I’m reading by Morgan Housel. It is a fascinating chapter where he describes how lucky Bill Gates was that he is where he is today. I thought...
