Richard Scott Blog: 20th August 2023

My week started on Tuesday. Monday was admin only.

So lets start with this weeks old photo. It's a picture of me when I was 11. My Mom and Dad moved back to the UK for 18 months and I was at a school called Alderman Leach. I entered the school Chess competition as I was pretty good. My Uncle Stuart use to to teach me. Well I won the contest. I was Alderman Leach Chess Champion. At the time I couldn't believe it. I was so chuffed.

My first and last ever Chess Trophy

Tuesday morning, we got up early and headed to town. I was invited to a BOSA meeting to help them out with the launch of a campaign. It was super duper powerful and something I have never experienced before, yet I understood it all. It was great to connect with Mmusi again.

Awesome moment to meet and spend quality time with Mmusi

I then picked Joanne up and we headed home for a light supper and an early night.

On the way to see Orette, our relationship therapist, we stopped off in Blauwberg as we were running early. I had to take a picture of our beautiful Table Mountain.

Wednesday, Rebul gave us a stash of reject boards to play with the design of my pop-up concept. Pics to follow.

I went to town on my Vespa after doing catch-up in the studio.

Richie poped in to chat 3D printing.

Prototyping the Rose

Wednesday Afternoon George from Dalla Cia popped in with his marketing guru Shaun and we discussed the 100-year celebrations of Dalla Cia. Were gonna do a Richard Scott Dalla Cia collaboration with 100 hand painted Grappa bottles. Watch this space. Pics to follow.

Angelique sent me some cool photos of the 5 Road Signs I sent to White house gallery in Johannesburg. Love it, as they are a very prestigious Johannesburg gallery.

Joanne and I made Chilli Sauce

Thursday, for some reason, I really struggled to get up at 5.30am. Nonetheless, I woke up with one eye open and went downstairs to put the Rocket Coffee machine on and shower and get dressed. By then both eyes were open and I was at least moving. We drove into town and I dropped Joanne and the office and headed to the Gallery. I was in real early and was the first to open up. Rushdy popped in to collect his valuation certificate I did for his Gold Money Tree. Then I knuckled down to doing a sales meeting with Chad. Lawrence popped in just before 10 to discuss Google Ads. I was so overwhelmed at the complexity of it I asked him to explain to me in Richard Scott words. I got the jist of it after focusing a lot. We will now run individual product campaigns, as to date, we have been running general sales and search and brand campaigns. I spend about R20 000 a month on Advertising. It's insane but it works.

After Lawrence left, we ordered in some yummy pizza from Pizza Connection in Woodstock. Richie joined in as he was here to discuss the rose head attachment for the tequila bottle. That went well and he will have a 2nd prototype ready Monday. The tequila bottle sample will be ready 23 August. So next Sunday I will post some pics.

Voted best Pizza in Cape Town. I can concur.

All of us enjoying the pizza

The Woodstock Brewery Mural needs attention.

Remember last week we sold out of this Gold Money Tree print. I have decided to now release the three artist proofs. Head over to the shop link above or head to the Gallery and get yours.

Friday, Sean Weldon popped into the gallery to catch up and drop off an original Heath Nash as a part of his circular work project.

An original Heath Nash.

It’s next level and Sean was telling me that most of my new art projects are all circular and not recycled. He explained the whole process. There’s also a position for me in the venture using my 30 years’ experience.

After Sean left, I popped upstairs to have a Zuney wagyu burger with Andre. I brought the burgers and Andre brought the buns and relish. Nom nom it was simple and delicious. Joanne, and I were lunching at The Bistro at Klein Constantia and the Zuney burger was my 11 o’clock starter. 11.30 came and it was time to go pick Joanne up and head off to Klein.

We had a nice lunch at The Bistro. They have increased their portions which doesn’t help Joanne and my eating style of smaller is better. The food and wine was world class and we were treated like royalty.

Alan took us up the hill again to see the wedding spot. We bumped into Matthew the wine maker while we were having a cellar tour. There is also a beautiful room in the cellar that is hundreds of years old.

Joanne, the love of my life. We were in the Vin de Constance room

After lunch we headed back home and chilled.

The kids were home for the weekend. It was nice to spend time with them even though they were all were studying.

Angelina is studying for her Matric prelims and was telling me she officially had her last day of class on Friday. Time has flown so quickly with Richie turning 21 this year and Angelina finishing school and turning 18 and getting independence with a car.

We made a nice chicken stir fry that lasted us to Saturday lunch.

Saturday morning Joanne and I did a beach run. It was nice for a change as the weather is turning and the sea was a little warmer. Still to cold to swim in it.

Saturday afternoon we chilled. The kids went to gym and we potted around the house.

I had a nice chat with Uncle Stuart in Pangbourne and he and Jane agreed that I can have a small gathering with collectors of my art while we’re there in September. So, I’m looking forward to that.

Stewart Morgan, my brother in law was also on the phone. He’s helping with car hire and other stuff while in the UK.

We had an early night Saturday night. Not before I finished all the medium Match Box Girls.
