Joanne and I took advantage of the sun that blessed us with it's presence last Sunday afternoon after all the rain and snow we’ve been having in the thick of winter.

I can not seem to beat Joanne

I even lost this game

Monday the kids were all still here. They stayed until Thursday and headed off back down their rabbit holes. I caught the flu and have had this underlying groggy head all week. After some Med-Lemon I’m able to function.

I finally got my banking username and password under control. I accidently typed in the wrong password three times and that 30 second mistake took me 3 hours on Monday to reset all 3 accounts. Why can’t your password be the same as your old one. Who invented that idea?

With me being a little under the weather it made the week a blur. I did not even start typing my blog until now, 11:26am Sunday morning. I had to go through my phones camera to see what I got up to.

I also go stuck into the stamps again. We managed to catalogue all the South African stamps and got started on America and Great Britain. There really are some beautiful old stamps in the collection.

Tuesday came and went, as did Wednesday and Thursday. I stayed home all week mainly because Angelina was visiting for the week.

Thursday Joanne stayed at home as well. She was not feeling well. I decided to make us some pickled fish. We still had the quick mix pickled fish spice from Montague that we didn’t use. It came out really well.

Friday Joanne did a Roberts and went to work even though she was not feeling great. I got stuck into the wallet design and the REBUL POP-UP shop mobile store. It’s quite cool working with REBUL as they are very transparent and flexible with their clients.

Saturday Joanne and I got up early. We had a long day ahead. We met Dean at the traffic department to give him the forms to re-license his car. Then we popped into the Gallery as Chad was on study leave. We first stopped at Milnerton Flea Market to look for a Antique handle to replace the one on the desk drawer Joanne recently bought on auction.

Then it was gallery time. Marco Garbero popped in to catch up. I managed to finish off the 30 spray cans that were waiting for me. I even managed, with Joanne’s help, to photograph them and put them online on the shop. I did an Instagram post and bingo we sold 3 just like that. Go onto the shop and get yours now.

After the gallery, Joanne and I popped upstairs for a beer and some lunch. We took a walk to the biscuit mill to see what was on there. It was a bit too vibey for us so we strolled through the flea market and wandered back to the brewery and then home via Checkers. I bumped into Chris the wood guy at Checkers and spotted some waterblommetjie plants is his car and he was so kind to give us a bag. We bought some lamb knuckle and will be making it in the week.

Back home and Joanne and I started preparing Sunday lunch. We decided to have a Bunny Chow cook off. Joanne made her dads famous Indian curry and I did 3 of my Cape Malay Chicken Curries. Butter Chicken, Tiia Chicken Masala and Briyayni Chicken. Pics and winner to follow. I had to pop out early and go buy 4 standard South African Government loafs. I bumped into Carel at the OK in Melkbos and had a good chat. Good old friend for many years. We even did the SANI to SEA together about 10 years ago.

I also bumped into Francois Visser, the old headmaster of Van Riebeeck Strand Primary School where Richie and Angelina did 7 years.

As I type this Joanne is setting the table around me.

This weeks old photo is of me in December 1988 on my last day of 2 years compulsory Military service. I was a chef in the army. I got kicked off Junior Leader course in Pretoria for complaining about the food and I got shipped off to 7 SAI in Phalaborwa. It was horrible. After 2 months I noticed a Battalion had just come back from the Angolan border and I asked the Chef Boss if I could join them. To my luck I was whisked off to the bungalows with all my bags and was now part of Battalion 2. I rushed out to stand attention with the squad and the Major said to the Squad “Thank you for your service for the last 6 months, go home to your family’s and enjoy your 30 day break” Wow did I land with my ass in the butter because up until that moment I had not been home. So, I went home for 30 days and when I got back I went with to Angola and spent a good 16 months there. It was truly an amazing experience.
