Richard Scott Blog: 16th April 2023

Monday was Easter and Joanne and I did as little as possible. Both the younger kids were either studying or traveling so we had the house to ourselves until Friday.

I did manage to get the 200 pink Ana key rings from Richie for Bernard and his wife Sophie in Belgium. So cool to think that 1000 people will have a Richard Scott key ring soon and in Belgium nog-al.

This week I switched service providers on the Blog from Word Press to Shopify. I was advised by Lawrence, the man that is helping me with Google ads and analytics and also helping me get all my ducks in a row with Google, Shopify and all my Social Media channels. I thought I knew it all, but there is a lot of tweaking to be done. So I trust you will like the new platform.

Tuesday, I drove into Woodstock with

Joanne. I dropped her at work and then headed to the gallery. I did some staff delegating for the week as we've all been away for Easter. After catching up, I headed to my 10am facial with Wilscha that lasted 90 minutes. It's always nice for some ME TIME. After that I headed back to the gallery and did some more delegating. I also added a few of the 20 x 20cm and 10 x 10cm Dinky works to Shopify under the heading Paintings.

Tuesday afternoon, I picked Joanne up at 2.30pm and we headed home. 

Wednesday, I was on a mission to finish the bathroom, but struggled as the wood had not arrived yet. So I just potted about and tinkered here and there.

Thursday, I went into town with Joanne and popped in to see Jason at Jason's Bakery. Was great to catch up with the man himself Jason and we strategized a Richard Scott Jason's Bakery give away in the month of May.

There is a certain wonderful feeling hanging out with super cool human beings. There's only a handful of people like this on the planet that I know and Jason is one of them.

After that we I popped back to the gallery to meet with Johan from a gallery in Riebeek Kasteel. It was his first time in the Richard Scott Gallery and he was amazed. He walked out with a bag full of goodies for his clients in Riebeek Kasteel.

After Johan left Angelique and I popped out to Dias Tavern a Portuguese restaurant in District Six to have lunch with John and Wade. We spoke about large Richard Scott "My Girl" Sculptures. Wade and John are on a mission to make it happen.

John, Wade, Angelique and I. We ordered the Prego Rolls this time and I can highly recommend them, the roast garlic sauce is to die for.

After lunch, Angelique dropped me at Joanne to collect her an hr early as she was load shedding for 4hrs and everything went flat so she could not work. The same happened at home and in the studio. You have to work around it. South Africa is bracing for a dark time with on average 10hrs a day without electricity.

Joanne dropped me off at David to pick up my Vespa. It was in for its 24000km service. David too is one of those good men who has your back.

Back in the day when I used to travel to Johannesburg every week I always used to bump into David on the way back to Cape Town as we both used to commute for work. Myself for the galleries and David for Vespa South Africa.

Friday, I stayed at home as I wanted to finish the bathroom restoration. The glass guys were coming at 11 to fit the shower panels back and I had to finish the wooden floor. I managed to get the part done that they needed to install. So it's good to have our bathroom back.

I also managed to start the Candy Vespa I have been asked to do as a commission. Here are a few pics in the making:

The younger kids popped over on Friday afternoon for the weekend. Joanne and I made a chicken Ala King while Angelina told us all about her ski-ing trip to Austria. We all listened with intent about the castles and the lakes and the islands and then the Ski adventure she went on with her friend Emma.

We all had a early night after chatting. Joanne and I managed to squeeze in the last part of that Social Media Movie "Not Okay"

Saturday morning I dropped Angelina off at dance and came back home. Joanne and I decided on a nice beach run for a change. Well we should of checked the wind first. By the time we reached the beach it was too late so we went for it.
It really was a tough 5km run and we were the only people running on the beach.

After our run we both potted around the house.
I was on the phone to Tyrone in Johannesburg at Eye Art discussing the exhibition. We decided to move my Johannesburg exhibition to end of June when he opens his new gallery space, so I’ll keep you posted.
Joanne and I got cracking on some yummy burgers for the kids for lunch.  Angelina came home and offered to make her famous onion rings, so lunch was delayed 1/2 an hour but it was worth it.
After lunch, we all cleaned up and chilled on the couch with cards and soaking up the last of the autumn sun with backgammon on the deck.

As the sun was setting, I got a nice fire going to warm us up.
I took the time to finish off a set of dinkies while Joanne caught up on some housework.
Dean and Daniela went out with some friends for supper while Joanne and I popped out to see Maurio at the local Italian for a Focaccia. We ordered Angelina a take away as she had a school task to finish. She chose Hawaian pizza which she ate by the fire.
Joanne and I settled in and watched a new series on Netflix and before we knew it, it was bed time.

Sunday we ran on the beach again and made a huge Sunday lunch of Gammon with pineapple glaze, roast chicken for the non-pork eaters as well as Joanne's famous roast potatoes. The table was full all but Chad as he was studying. Always great to see all the family and to see them still chatting to each other at the table 2 hours after lunch.
