Weekly updates on what happend in Richard Art life in the last 7 days

Richard Scott: 24th July 2022

Monday I popped out for lunch with Carl Smyth. Carl is my friend and the biggest collector of my art in the world. We had Chinese for lunch at The Orient, Eden on the Bay. We tried to catch up on all our news but 2hrs is never enough to catch up when you haven’t seen each other for a long time. I remember doing a world gallery tour will Carl in 2010. We did 11 cities in 10 days and the thing I remember the most is he is such a friendly man. Carl an I have become best friends over the years and we’ve had an amazing journey and there’s more to come. I remember on one flight I got upgraded to business class and Carl says “that’s nice, I’ve never traveled in business” so I swapped him my ticket and sat in the the middle seat in the middle row. An hour into the flight I hear a phone ring. Those were the days before you got WiFi on Emirates. I realised it’s the phone on the arm of my seat. I picked up the phone and Carl said hello can I bring you down a glass of Champagne? That’s Carl. Great memories. Anyway the lunch was good and then we finished off with coffee at The Daily.

On my way out, I noticed Elias, my Barber, who works in Melkbos had opened up his own shop at the corner entrance to Eden on the Bay. I decided to get a hair cut right there and then to support him. He is from Algeria and we get on like a house on fire. He was telling me he cuts about 12 peoples hair a day and life is better now that he is running his own shop and in control. So cool to see because for as long as I’ve know Elilas he has been dreaming of his own shop.

Tuesday, I had to catch up with admin and the likes. There are a lot of my works appearing on the secondary market. I spotted a bad copy of My Girls on Old Johannesburg Warehouse online auction. They even had the audacity to use my name. I called them and asked them to remove it and they didn’t. I then turned to Social Media and had over 500 views of the FAKE post on Instagram. Only then did they remove it. Still no apology! It was off to the lawyers on Monday. It is an honor that artists copy me but professional Auction Houses should not sell them.

Wednesday, I went into the shop and decided to tidy it up and rehang a few things. Here you see the new Pool Pillows that I launched a few month back.

Thursday, Joanne and I had been together for 3 years. Here is a picture of the first day we met 21st July 2019 at Overture Restaurant.

We hit it off from day 1 and we are still so madly in love and I love Joanne more and more each day.

Here are a few memories of Joanne and I over the years. We have done so much together and still want to do so much more.

Joanne got off work a little earlier Thursday and I picked her up and we headed to Stellenbosch for a supper at Overture, where we first met. I booked the honeymoon suite at Webersburg guest farm at the bottom of the hill that Overture is on. I learnt that Fred Webers bought the entire farm around 1995 from the road all the way up the mountain. Around 2002 he sold a piece to Ernie Els. Its a beautiful farm. I can highly recommend taking the family there. Its right next to the Strawberry picking farms. We had a wonderful time celebrating our time together.

3 Years and Joanne and I decided to get married

That evening we went for supper at Overture and were very well looked after by Sean and Chef Sebastian. We had the 4 course meal with pairing.

I attended my weekly therapy session with Nadia and we did a recap. It is called CHOICE therapy and basically, I am learning to make the right choices based on being positive.

Friday morning, we woke up early and went for coffee with Bertus and his lovely wife Marelie at his restaurant Eike in Dorp Street, Stellenbosch. Joanne says she can see why we get on so well as we both talk at 1000 miles an hour and switch subjects in a split second. We caught up on family life and work work work.

The man himself Bertus Basson. Bertus and I go back many years when Carl Smyth introduced us and we spent the day together cooking and painting at Overture.

From there we headed to Hout Bay Gallery via Muizenberg. Its a beautiful drive.

Joanne took this photo of False Bay. The beach comes right up to the road. Quite fitting with the Road Sign as we were heading to Hout Bay to name the Artworks with Marika. The Exhibition opens next Sunday at 3pm at Hout Bay Gallery.

Saturday we got up nice and early and did some research on the items on auction at Russel Kaplan’s online auction. The small set of 9 Dinky Candy Girls is already on a PRE-BID of R28 000 and the actual auction is only next Saturday.

I have put a link to the Auction in the footnote.

After our research, we got up and did a road run then cleaned up the house because we had a viewing at 11am. Ian from Jarwitz arranged it for 11am and we were spot on time. Joanne even put a loaf of banana bread in the oven. She said it was a good way to sell your home with the smell of baking. While I was cleaning up outside I spotted this.

A beautiful rainbow with a pot of gold at the bottom.

Saturday afternoon (Like right now) I decided to get a head start on this blog so I am typing right now 🙂 Joanne got stuck into a nice big Chicken Ala King as all the kids will be here tomorrow for lunch. We have started this thing called ‘Sunday Lunch’ as we are both in that part of our lives where the kids have their own lives and partially moved on. Such a weird feeling as you miss them so much but you are happy for them to be on their way and the next chapter in their lives and ours.

Sunday morning early, before the sun came up, and on my way to make coffee I spotted Seaside Village painting in the reflection of the bedroom window. I took a photo as I wanted to share it with you, it was so beautiful.

My Seaside Village. 100 x 100cm in the bedroom window refection.

I printed out the winter golf print, My Winter Round, for Gaynor Rupert’s Golf Invitation for charity. Here is a cheesy pic of me, the proud artist.

The kids came over for Sunday lunch which was a treat. We all enjoyed Joanne’s famous Chicken Ala King with white sauce (combined with my dad’s tinned tomatoe secret ingredient) as apposed to cream. The kids lounged around and Angelina was getting us all involved with the Matric Jersey name. Richard asked me to help him make a table so we worked out the measurements and will get stuck into that in the coming weeks.

Until next week

Richard
