So, Joanne and I are trying this new thing of going to bed real early Sunday nights. It’s working because I slept from 8pm to 6am. That’s quite rare for me to get a full 10 hours sleep in.
This week was about Thursday’s launch at Henry’s New gallery, You & I Gallery at 17 Kloof Nek Road, Tamboerskloof, Cape Town which meant that Wednesday was go go go.
Applying the glue to the U-BRACKET. It’s always so rewarding doing the small DIY stuff yourself. These signs are off to Joshua Rossouw at Rossouw Modern in Hermanus
Spraying the base white through a stencil
Thursday, I dropped Richie off to pick up the 999 Ducati. Brendon of BMS did a wonderful job of getting the bike back to new. Richie rode the bike home and said it was tough but awesome.
Richie and I own 2 of these magnificent machines. The best part about the 999 is that it won 3 World Superbike Championships. We are thinking of selling them to buy a new aeroplane engine for FOH, our 2 seater Sling Richie uses to build up Flying hours. I don’t own a car but i own an aeroplane and 2 Super bikes.
This week I recalled all the Desmond Tutu art. It is time to return, reflect and make some big decisions. Details to follow. Here’s a few photos of the project.
The rest of Thursday I got stuck into finishing off the ROAD WORK signs Joshua ordered for his Gallery in Hermanus.
I called this work “No Restrictions, Go Go Go” because it is done on the UK road sign that you see every time you exit a small town and can drive at the National Speed limit. I used to love seeing this sign when I was part of Auto Vivendi Supercar club. It meant you could open up the Lamborghini or Ferrari. Strangely enough my favorite car was the Nissan GTR. I’ve always wanted one.
Joshua asked me to paint and up-cycle a chair to help raise funds for local Hermanus charities. Joshua works and supports many different charities in Hermanus. Joshua publishes a advert in the starting months of September for charities to start applying for donations. Joshua chooses the charity he will donate/work with in December. Details to follow for you to get your hands on this piece.
Joshua doing what he does best, keeping up with the NEWS in hard copy and on social media.
Thursday I was supposed to have lunch with Charl from Worldart. I called him for a rain check after I dropped off my ROAD WORK signs at Henry’s New gallery. I took one look at Henry’s space and realized he was never going to be ready for the opening night so Angelique, Chad and I climbed in to help. That said I had to rain check my lunch with Charl. He was kind enough to pop in and say hello and wish Henry the best for the evening.
Charl is one of a handful of people who made my art career what it is today. Thanks Charl.
Joanne got a few pictures of me helping Henry.
Everything was hung on time and Henry had a bumper of an opening. It’s like the hey day is back. His gallery was jam packed for 3 hours. It was great to mingle and meet new people.
Friday morning, we got up and carried on as usual. Joanne worked from home. I went to go see Nadia, my therapist and had an amazing session. Shes teaching me how to subconsciously filter whats goes on in order to fill my 5 needs cups: FREEDOM, LOVE, POWER, FUN and STABILITY. I’m currently at step 2 which is identifying that there’s a challenge in front of me and then acting and making the right choice. The next step is to do this subconsciously. I can only imagine its going to take about a year. It takes time.
After therapy Joanne and I popped into town to collect all the Woodstock Brewery beer equipment and Richard Scott Gin from Henry’s gallery.
Angelique popped into go see Joshua and deliver the ROAD WORK signs to him. If you are in the Hermanus area and want one of my new ROAD WORK pieces, pop into Rossouw Modern.
Mario form Rossouw Modern hanging the signs on Friday for the Hermanus art Fair
Angelique also popped in to see Walker Bay gallery and Benguela Cove on her way to Hermanus
I sent two artworks up to Russel Kaplan Auctioneers. They are works by Russel Travis and Bruster. I’ll put this link in a future blog once I have it.
Friday afternoon the kids all came over for the weekend. Richie rocked up on the Ducati 999 and wanted to park it in the house like old days. Angelina came along with Victoire who says her driving is getting better and better. Joanne made Spaghetti Bolognaise for supper and we all had an early night.
Saturday I took Angelina to dance at the Artscape and picked her up afterwards. Angelina had a veggie and chicken wrap for lunch and I made myself a stir fry salad with sweet and sour sauce mixed with soy sauce and a hot ENCONA Carolina Reaper chilli sauce over asian coleslaw mix. It was absolutely delicious. I scoffed it, as did Angelina.
Supper came quickly as well and we used the leftover Bolognaise to make Vet Koek and Mince. It was yum. Joanne and I played some rummy and she won both rounds. We have never played and had a full run before. It was nice to see. Angelina helped me with Wordle and we all sat around the games table and caught up. Slowly the kids wondered off to bed as Joanne and and I finished watching the season of Stranger Things. We too had a nice early night.
While Angelina was in the studio creating I took a series of photos and posted them on Instagram to give my followers an insight into what’s going on in the studio. Kinda like a peek behind the scenes. Here are the photo’s. As you can see I use a lot of the Instagram photo editing effects to enhance the pictures and bring out the best of the photo’s.
Photo of my stencil in the background and my own paint mixed. Y8 is a light yellow. This batch was mixed before COVID and is still good to use as I make sure not to contaminate my paint. Wow, how cool would it be to go back to this day in 2019 and know that 365 days later all hell will break loose on the planet.
Sunday morning I got up early and made all the kids French Toast and crispy bacon. Chad popped over, just in time, and it was great to have all the kids sitting around the table. Full house. YES YES YES.
I made my famous Cheese Ball Bread to complement Joanne’s bangers, mash and peas for Sunday lunch. (That too was scoffed – finished)
Done! It was the first thing all those around the table opted for first at Sunday Lunch
As I finish this weeks BLOG, lunch has been served and scoffed. The storm has hit us in Melkbosstrand. This fire is going. The house is quite but warm. The kids are all studying.
Until next week. Have and awesome Sunday and an even better week.
Richard
P.S. the reason there are so many pictures in this weeks blog is that I came up with a genius idea of offering my family and staff R50 a photo that they take of me that it appears on the blog. Angelina suggested R50 is to much and R10 was sufficient. LOL
