Hello,
Monday was so busy it became Tuesday.
Tuesday I popped into town to the shop. After dropping Joanne at work I bumped into Tony Coleman at Tamboerswinkel. Had a quick catch up and then off to the shop. I also saw a good old friend Achim drive by. We made contact and we are having lunch Tuesday next week. I will tell you all the cool stories in next weeks blog.
Espen Kuhle and his wife Kjersti popped into the shop all the way from Norway. Espen has been an avid collector of my art since way back when.

Tuesday afternoon I went to go see Jeff Holzberg, my lawyer about that theft of my 2m x 1m Candy piece back in 2020. Were making good progress and go to trial in March. Ill keep you in the loop. Quite exciting to catch a robber.
Meet Jeff. He’s very smart.
Wednesday, was a studio day. I got some Road Signs done for Rossouw Modern. In fact this whole week was chaotic. I haven’t worked this hard in ages. It feels like before COVID. The sun is shining, everyone is happy and the tourists are all here with their money. Stefan Welz auctioned off a small set of the Dinky Works. It was fun to watch the bidding go up. The hammer price was R9500. Super chuffed that my art has a life of its own.
Final hammer price was R9500
Selwyn popped in to see me and discuss the Plett Pop up in December. He also took a Leopard Skin Ana print I did for him for Cape Leopard Trust. Selwyn is such a wonderful supporter of many charitable organizations. He does so much for them. She rummaged though all my old experimental studio sketches and reject prints and said he’s gonna turn it all into money for me.

The print I did was auctioned off by Philip Powell for the Cape Leopard Trust. Philip managed to get R30 000 for the print. Here’s a short description from Helen who heads it up:
Here are a few words form the CEO Helen Turnbull, CEO of the Cape Leopard Trust:
Richard, I must say I was blown away by your interpretation of ‘leopard’. It’s an interesting juxtaposition of both modern and classic influences on the female form. The use of red in the bikini is interesting, perhaps subtly indicating the survival crisis facing leopards around the globe? Leopard print is a desirable and essential staple in every female’s wardrobe, and perhaps offers a shared sense of the shared qualities leopards and females share, i.e. strong, fearless, vulnerable, beguiling and wild. Anyway, not that I know anything about art, but thank you, thank you, thank you for creating this piece. I’m pleased to say it has found a good home.
Selwyn asked me to tell you a little about what we do. The Cape Leopard Trust is a small NGO based in Cape Town. We use research and education to develop and implement practical conservation, working at the interface where communities, farmers and wildlife meet at the urban edge. The leopard is all that remains of the Big 5 that once roamed these landscapes and is a keystone species. In other words leopards are essential for landscape stability and ultimately human well-being. The Western Cape is a spectacular province, rich with globally relevant biodiversity. By protecting the leopard we also protect ourselves and our spectacular corner of Africa. We have lots of other information on our website (www.capeleopard.org.za), and if you would like to know more do let me know.

Wednesday evening I had to finish off the working day with completing the drawings for Jozua Rossouw’s annual fund raiser: Night of a 1000 drawings. It has been decided at the last meeting to use the majority of the funds raised to award an annual Artist Scholarship. The rest will be donated to smaller art projects throughout the year. Jozua has over the past 8/9 years done extremely well in giving to smaller charities in Hermanus, but the N1000D is an art related charity event , therefore they will concentrate on the arts. An up-and-coming young artist (identified by the art education network in the Overstrand) will be supported with transport, materials and workshops that can make the difference to someone who can succeed or not because of financial restraints.

Thursday I was back at the shop. Deon Bing popped in and we caught up. we finally decided to do our monthly VLOG, if that’s the correct term. We are going to video ourselves conversing about what ever comes up. It’s going to be interesting.

Candy Us
Angelina come over for the weekend and Joanne decided to get all the kids round for one last meal before Richie goes on a 6 week holiday to Mauritius. Lucky kid. When I was his age I was shipped of to Angola to go fight in the army for 2 years.
Angelina took the opportunity to get us all together to do the famous annual Richard Scott painted Christmas tree. This year she decided on Ultramarine Blue with red and green trimmings. Everyone had a go and it was a great way to bond. Everyone gets on so well.
The Start
The final product
Saturday was suppose to be a nice rest day. We dropped Angelina off at her friend for a birthday party and she was heading to Elands Bay for the week with her another friend. We popped into do some weekly shopping and rushed back home for a video call with the Booking.com guys. I listed the house on Airbnb and Martin Baule suggested I do the same on Booking.com. After that we foraged in the garden for spinach and carrots and radishes. Joanne made us a nice egg and spinach pie with butternut, Kloovenberg egyption dukkah and ricotta cheese. We cooked it in our cheap Defy oven on grill only as the element broke. That’s what made the awesome crust.
Sunday, even though it was gale force winds in Cape Town, we went for our run on the beach. After breakfast was clean the house day as we got a reservation on Air BnB. So it’s time to clean up and throw away all the junk. While Joanne was doing that I whisked up a quick Curry and were having open lunch today and serving Vetkoek and Mince. Pic to follow.
I decide to make some pickled cabbage while Joanne was potting around.
I decided to open up a nice bottle of Richard Scott Spider Pig Rosé and make us some Sunday Spritzers.
Collaboration I did with Spider Pig wines and Martin Baule
We had our usual Sunday lunch, but all the kids are out and about. Final exams, shopping, chilling and and and. Here are the yummy Vet Koek and mince pics.
Lunching on our deck with the love of my life
