Richard Scott Blog - 21st January 2024

I was a bit lazy last week with the blog. I only started typing it up at 1pm on Sunday after Paddle. No Excuse. Apologies for that. So, this week I got stuck in on Tuesday as I sit here at the Gallery.

We stayed over Sunday night as we had Craigs 60th Birthday celebration. Joanne was happy to meet all the people she’d been talking to over the years on the phone for the first time. I got to meet Craigs wonderful friends and we had a great time. We departed early and headed back to Carpe Diem for an early night.

Chilling with friends Bianca and Daniel.

Happy 60th Birthday Craig.

This week was easing into the work state of mind. Monday morning Joanne and I woke up at Carpe Diem where our friend Daniel hosted us. We had a light breakfast and headed out. I dropped Joanne off at the office and headed to the shop. I decide to clean up the shop as it looked like a bomb hit it. While doing so a new collector, Simon, popped in and decided to buy himself a handful of Richard Scott’s. As Simon was leaving Danilo and Anna popped in. They were on holiday from Lugano. Danilo and I go back a few years as friends. He always comes into the gallery and buys small gifts. Lovely how your friends support you like that. After we caught up Danilo invited me for a lunch at The Church. Danilo made fillet steak Prego rolls and we were comparing them to the best in Cape Town; Manos. Danilo was on par and NOM NOM. After lunch I picked up Joanne and we headed home once again for an early night.

Driving Joanne to the office. I love spending every minute I can with the love of my life.

Meet Simon and his friends for the UK. A new collector of Richard Scott's.

One of the best feelings in the world is when a friend comes to say hello at the Gallery and actually buys something from me. Here Anna and Danilio bought 3 cushions, a Richard Scoot wallet and a 3D print.

Getting there slowly.

Danilo showing me his D A N I L I O stamp :)

Friends messing about.

Tuesday morning was as we say in South Africa; KAK. I had one of those washing machine head days. I managed to get up around 10 and drove my Vespa into town. I dropped it off for a service and headed to the shop where I just drank lots and lots of water. Joanne made me a doctor’s appointment Friday morning to get blood tests. Tuesday afternoon was better. I got the staff some burgers for lunch from Zuney and then met up with Superhuman Shaun to discuss a co-lab with the Pride event taking place in February.

Joanne picked me up, as I came in with the Vespa and we headed home.

Now I can add Zuney Burgers to my top 5 best burgers along with De Vrije.

I think they cook their chips in dripping. Wagyu dripping. I need to investigate as there delicious.

1000 miles an hour Super Human Shaun.

Wednesday morning, I woke up to a message from Angelina with her matric results. She got 5 Distinctions and top in the grade for Dance and Geography (George Eats Old Gray Rats And Paints Houses Yellow). That is how I leant to spell Geography at school and still use it today. LOL. So, Angelina did well and im super chuffed for her.

Wednesday I popped into the Gallery and got stuck into my usual Admin Wednesdays. That was good. We also cleaned up the shop nicely. We took 5 big boxes to the POP-UP in Plett and only brought back 2. Wednesday afternoon Joanne, Chad and popped in to see Mahdis. She is the lady that sells my road signs on the corner of Buitenkant and Aderly. We discussed some new works she acquired and invited us to her house to look at the empty walls and fill them with my art.

Love seeing these pieces in homes.

We headed home and decided to make some stir-fry for supper. It was so good even the kids scoffed it the next day and commented how good it was.

My Studio. Frans prepping a construction piece.

Have to post a food pick. Tastes better than in looks.

Thursday Joanne dropped me off at the Gallery in Woodstock as I had a lunch meeting in Stellenbosch. I once again cleaned up the Gallery as orders were in coming in thick and fast from Wednesday it was once again in a mess.

Sending Mano a few Tree Print Picks. These are sold out in the notmal editions, but there are a few Artists Proofs Available.

Richard Scott Red Tree and Richard Scott Red 999 Ducati.

Marco Garbero poped in ti chat art. Always good to see him.

Frans popped in and manned the gallery while Chad drove me to Pane E Vino to have lunch with Goerge and introduce him to Danilo as we want to partner up and make Danilo’s famous Limoncello. Gorge told me his dad Giorgio. What an honor to have lunch with the King of South African Wine makers.

Elanor makes the most simple and delicious food. NOM NOM.

Always take the photo. Me, George, Chad, Danilio, Giogio and Anna.

Carpaccio. Delicious. (Carpaccio is an Italian appetizer of thinly sliced raw meat drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil. It's traditionally made with beef)

Doing Business. Cheers to George.

Got the pic. You can see how excited and happy I am. Such an honor to dine and eat with Giorgio. Heres a link to his story: CLICK HERE

The lunch went well and Limoncello was discussed and we have a plan. Watch this space.

After lunch was got the tour of the distillery and got some goodies from Dalla Cia and headed back home. Chad dropped me off at home and Joanne was busy packing away groceries. She did the run on her own as I was late.

The skill of distilling. Science or art?

Once agin messing about.

Meet Andre. Andre popped in to dropp off some paper. On my phone Andre is saved as Andre Paper Man. Always delivers and very fast.

Friday Joanne worked form home. By 7.30 we had already finished our beach run and breakfast. Then we both potted about the house until my 10.30 blood teats at the doctor. Results to follow.

Experimenting with resin.

After that we headed into the Gallery and took over from Chad. Frans was in to help out.

I did the draw for the winner of the Gold Money Tree and Matt XYZ wone it. We called him and he was ecstatic.

And the winne ris Matt

Joanne and I headed off to Mano’s to have lunch and discuss with Mano and Eve the replacement of the Richard Scott pieces on the Mano’s Restaurant Wall. So you will soon see something nice there if you lunch there.

After mano we popped in to see Fiezel. Fiezel is Craigs mechanic and the BMW was making that front right knocking sound when its more that 25 degrees outside. It Friday’s case it reached 43 degrees in Cape Town. Anyway, Fizel took the car for a spin and said it the front right suspension. Bring it in Monday he said. And all that after BMW could never find the problem. Let’s see if Fiezel is right.

This is Fielzels place. Use fiezel to fix your car, we do.

We drove home and swam in the pool as it was so hot. We caught some sun and then watched a movie. We fell asleep on the couch so earth that I was wide awake at 4am Saturday morning.

Once again, we got up early, went for a beach run and a beautiful thick mist came in over the sea in 5 minutes flat while we were running. It lasted the whole day from Cape Town to Melkbos. We could see the band of fog and we drove into Woodstock to man the Gallery.

I’m actually sitting here now typing this and watching Joanne doing research for our wedding.

Great team.

Oh, we did manage to decide on the cities and locations we want to go visit in Italy in September. Milan, Lugano, Genoa, La Spezia, Pisa, Rome, Tuscany, Lake Garda and Venice. Clearly, we will need to delete a few, but that the plan form now. We will spend the most time in Lake Garde having a nice rest and enjoying Sean Weldon’s hospitality.

Ahem........... By car or Train. If we walk it it will take 13 days. LOL.

Until Next week
