Richard Scott Blog: 18th September 2022

Angelique and I planning the launch of Candy Candy. A new print that we will launch next week.

I forgot to post a few pictures of Joanne lighting up the sage last Sunday – 11th Blog) so here she is lighting it. It had a weird yet wonderful smell.

I stayed home all day Monday and wrote a long list of things to do. It was mostly catch up as it’s the middle of the month, everyone has been paid, the gas tank is full, the engine is oiled and everyone is getting on with life.

Monday afternoon, I helped Chad pack the Caddy. Chad and Angelique went to to Plettenberg Bay for two days to deliver prints to The Junction just in time for the art show at the end of September 2022. Angelique chose a nice selection of works. More details to follow.

I also I finished the new print “Reflections in my blue life” as mentioned in last weeks blog it is a series of works I did in 2005 that I have now adapted with my interest in the works of South African artist Robert Hodgins. His blurry imagery of men fascinate me.

Reflections: Eye Candy

I got a 2 litre bottle of that homemade Ginger beer from the lady on the corner at the Greyton market on Saturday. She makes the best Ginger beer I have ever had. It takes about 20 minutes to open the bottle. I’m surprised her bottles don’t explode they are so gassed up. I drank half of it on Monday with my lunch and the other half I took to the shop on Tuesday and finished it.

Monday night we did our usual early to bed after watching the Pizza Chef documentary on Netflix. I didn’t realise pizza making was an art. Wow those pizzas look so delicious. The only other person I know that makes pizza the same is David Higgs at Saints in Johannesburg. My mouth was watering. I do follow the Garage Pie in Cape Town as I’ve had a slice of their margherita once but have never had the honor of eating a whole pizza.

Tuesday, I went into my gallery in Woodstock and had the whole place to myself as Chad and Angelique were in Plettenberg Bay.

After fetching Joanne from work, we headed back home just in time to catch up with Frans applying the Gold Leaf to the latest Cape Town hand finished print. It’s 22 Karat Gold and costs an arm and a leg. It is beautiful stuff to work with.

Here’s a few pictures of my gallery. It’s looking spotless and so colorful. Pop in and come say hello and come get some Richard Scott one of a kinds. You’ll catch me there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Soon we are going to be hosting some nice Gin Parties and have some fun.

The Shop looking nice and clean

Wednesday night Angelina’s School, Elkana, had a cultural evening and it was very entertaining. Also nice to see your daughter center stage and introducing herself.

I drove into town with Joanne Thursday morning and we tried the N7 then N1 Highway vs the Beach Road. It is 20 minutes quicker, saves more petrol, but is a little boring. Joanne and I tried to find the beauty in the trip. We spotted it: Table Mountain.

The early morning sun baking on our Mother City Mountain with a road sign waiting to be Richard Scott-i-fied

Thursday was Blood donating again. Every 6 weeks.

The wonderful team at the Western Cape Blood Services. I am now 1/2kg lighter and saved someones life.

 Plettenberg Bay debriefing:

Going through the Plett Material

 happy client

Thomas and Victoria happy with their new purchase for their daughter. It is always great to meet clients and chat and engage.

I have been needing a haircut for a while, about 6 weeks and Nick my next door neighbour to my gallery roped me in for a decent cut. Joanne was happy to see me looking all handsome again. (her words)

I got an anonymous Whatsapp from a gentleman, who turned out to be Gary, on Friday. He was wondering if the painting he was gifted some years back was an original Richard Scott. Well it turns out that it is. In 2002 I was experimenting with lots of subjects, even parrots. This might be the only ever parrot painting I did. I’m not too sure.

Friday Joanne worked from home again and I finalized the first print of the MY Guy series as mentioned above. We decided to eat dinner at the local Italian down the road.

Saturday Joanne and I went for our usual run on the beach. We managed 5km again. I had to stop and take some pictures of the flowers between the house and the beach. So beautiful. Spring is here. Yeahhhhhhh.

Spring is here and I need a shave

Beautiful contrast of colours on the West Coast

After our run Joanne made a yummy breakfast. We have no power so I toasted the melba toast on the gas flames Richard Scott style. You can never go wrong with plain tomatoes on toast/bread. David Higgs taught me that. The bread is rye that we get from Tamboerswinkel in town and I slice it very thinly on the slicer Martin Baule gave me as a gift. It’s from Germany and it slices beautifully.

Joanne asked me if I would do my famous Cape Malay Chicken curries for Sunday lunch. So I used Saturday afternoon to prep and get them done. They always taste better the next day. I did a Butter Chicken, a Briyani, Tikka and Fennel. 4 different dishes that are very simple and easy to make. There is a pic of me cooking on my cheep DEFY stove while the expensive SMEG gas one isn’t even plumbed in. LOL

Richie popped round to drop off some keyring mock ups. We could hear the bike coming from a mile away.

Chad popped over a little later to do some studies. Joanne and I took the time to make a nice Sweet Potato bake and roast Alister King’s Olive Chicken for supper.

Sunday morning we were up early and went for a run on the beach at 8am. The good was all cooked on time and all the kids were here and very happy with the chicken curries and rottis.

Until Next week

Have an awesome week

Richard
