Richard Scott Blog: 16th October 2022

Monday was back to work after 10 days holiday with Joanne. I got stuck into admin and catch up banking etc. I did do some admin while away but only checking emails and also to see if the bank account was in the positive. It was a real struggle, I must admit after being with Joanne for 10 days solid and really unwinding. Pre COVID, and various other things, I never needed to go on a holiday. I was permanently on holiday. I remember the days when I didn’t know what day of the week it was. How times have changed and life takes you down different paths.

On Monday I got some news from my attorney about that German and Icelandic couple that did not pay for the 2m x 1m Candy Girls painting of mine. Looks like there getting scared and left a back door open to not go to court. Either way I win, court or payout.

Tuesday, I popped into town and got stuck into shop/studio mode. I dropped Joanne off and bought her a coffee from Tamboers Winkel, our local morning coffee stop. Always good to see Emanuel and Adi and the owner Marius. I must still chat to Marius about putting Richard Scott Wine in his Deli.

Selwyn messaged me early Tuesday and wanted to introduce me to Ross. Ross knows a lot about Tequila and Selwyn wanted to show him my concept for a Tequila Art Brand. Ross was very knowledgeable and helpful on all fronts. From what Tequila to use and how to go about it. Very nice man. I can see myself doing business with him. He even bought a large piece of my Graffiti Spray art on paper.

Tuesday afternoon, Joanne booked me a 90 minute facial with Wilsha at Medi-Spa Kloof Street. Ever since I have being going to Wilsha, my skin has been 1000 times better. Outside her spa near the Mount Nelson, I spotted this 100+ old tree that has been cut down fighting back.

Swelco Auction house auctioned off these 9 dinky Candy Girls this week they fetched R8000. The lucky buyer got him/herself one of the last of these series. I know I go on about it a bit, but its such an honor to be in this Auction Secondary Market space. Basically, like I said before, after my death, my art will live on forever trading hands and increasing in value.

Wednesday, I got stuck into studio stuff. I wanted to do some touch ups to the big blue construction piece. It was sitting on the floor under the first ever Construction piece I did way back when I demolished and rebuilt my house.

Wednesday afternoon, I managed to make 3 new Road Works art pieces for Rossouw Modern in Hermanus.

Here I am applying the SOUDAL FIX ALL to the bracket on the back that holds the piece up

Thursday was Shop day again in Woodstock. Tony, the barman from Woodstock Brewery popped in and I gave him a prototype Richard Scott 3D printed My Girls keyring to test for me. He is an avid supporter and is going to help me sell my expensive Gold Tequila into the black market space. The desk in the shop was a real mess, but mess means there’s stuff happening. Angelique and I were planning out next Johannesburg trip and Chad and myself brainstormed the next Richard Scott Art Box that we do every December.

I treated the staff to a Asian lunch from HON. We got Chicken Fried Rice and Beef with Black Bean sauce. Loveness, the waiter at the Brewery was puzzled why we were eating with sticks. Chad explained to her and she even had a go at eating some Chicken Fried Rice with chopsticks.

I popped out Thursday afternoon to sign a print at ORMS that Rafique and Nanje printed for me. This piece is going to Walker Bay Art Gallery to replace the one they sold last week.

After signing the print I picked Joanne up from her office in Cape Town and we headed for a quick coffee and catch up with my dear friend Harold. Harold talks a lot, but I like it because he makes a lot of sense. I always ask him all the market and financial questions that are going on currently like “why is the pound weaker than the dollar?” and “do you think the Reserve Bank will raise the inflation rate soon?” Harold asked me if I have done the Wines to Whales 3 day Mountain bike event. I raised my hand and showed him 5 fingers. I actually went to go check my medal collection I had stashed away.

When we pack art I use stencils and stickers to increase the value of the brown paper and turn it into art. Here are the three stencils Chad’s been using in the shop. Time for some new ones and turn these into art 🙂

Friday, I got stuck into fixing that shower pipe I drilled into. Etienne the plumber came and fixed the pipes and I bricked it up again.

Friday was Angelina’s 17th Birthday party so all the family came over and we went to Forneria Itali down the road in Melkbos. He really makes great Pizza.

Clockwise from me: Joanne, Chad, Angelina, Victoire, Richie, Dean and Daniella

Angelina was the first to get the new Richard Scott TOTE-BAG made from my old studio jeans.

Angelique popped into Hermanus on Friday and went to go see Joshua at Rossouw Modern and Jay at Walker Bay Gallery. They both have Richard Scott Shrines.

Saturday we worked at home and did some flat searching as it’s getting close to selling the big beach house. Joanne and I found a nice 3 Bedroom flat in High Cape on table mountain that I’m going to put an offer in on. Joanne and I started our buy to rent plan when she purchased a nice 1 bedroom place in Century City to rent out. So here goes that phase of our lives. The plan is to buy one place a year for 10 years. Hold thumbs for us.

Sunday we invited all the kids for roast Duck and Chicken for the kids who didn’t like duck. Our luck, no one pitched except Joanne’s brother Ian, so I said to Joanne we need to learn how to make spring rolls with the left over Chicken.

Have a fantastic week.
