Richard Scott Blog - 29th December 2024

Only once in the past did I start typing my blog on Sunday, today. I have had such a busy and then such a lazy week all in one.

A few pics of our Sunday pod in the forest in Klein Brak.

Paradise.

Always a fire going with me around.

Monday we woke up in out Forest Paradise Cabin just outside Klein Brak. We initially booked two nights, but realised it was not going to work with Christmas in 2 days’ time and we still had not even got a tree, let alone buy our one and only secret Santa gift. So, we packed up and headed home via Chris and Engela, our longtime friends and fellow artist. Joanne helps Chris with the sale of his art.

It was really good to see them and spend time with them and sharing our stories.

Chris and Engela. They have the most spectacular view.

Then we were off home. It was a 5 hour drive, and we decided to go via Worcester and Roberson as there are fewer large tucks on that road.

We got home unpacked and made our plans for Tuesday.

Joshua from Rossouw Modern posted a pic of a happy client.

Tuesday was a shopping day. Joanne and I decided to go on the Vespa to celebrate Andy’s life. It was the first time on my Vespa this summer.

Off we go.

I first dropped Joanne at work, as she was eager to do the last minute end of year stuff. I then drove to Camps Bay to see John, from Hout Bay Gallery as he had a client there who wanted a Richard Scott graffiti wall commission.

Then off to see Yusar at Urban Me in De Waterkant for a haircut.

Meet Yusar.

I then went to pick Joanne up and we went to visit Joanne's brother, Paul in High Cape.  We then drove to the Edgemead Christmas Market to get our last Christmas goodies. It is definitely worth a visit each year. It's huge and you can literally buy anything you can think of with a Christmas theme.

Then back home on a long ride that seem to take forever but was fun.

Joanne and I wrapped a few gifts, prepared the Christmas Lunch, and had an early night.

Stein City Art Gallery also posted a pic of The Money Tree in their front window.

Christmas morning while Joanne was foraging for Spinach and other vegetables, I decided to turn over the compost heap as a Christmas gift to myself. Its hard work, but I loved it.

Gardening. Jane would be proud of me. Recycling SPAR and Checkers 60/60 bags.

The food was all in the oven and lunch was set for 1pm. Yeah right. We managed to get it done by 2pm.

Merry Christmas. Me, Joanne, Chad, Thorne, Amy, Richie, Dean, Daniella, Steve and Ian.

Yeah, it's summer. Yes, I did jump in.

Thursday was boxing day, and you know what happens on Boxing Day. Nothing. Both Joanne and I got stuck into some new books. She finished her book, and I started reading The Monk who Sold his Ferrari by Robin Schama. It was a little difficult to get into, and I am still struggling to read the flow of the book. The story line is brilliant, just the conversation style book is weird to translate.

Friday was the start of our six day break in the mountains near Ceres. Remember that pod we stayed in that had the cherry farm owned by Phil and Michelle, well they let us stay in the beautiful house on the hill Joanne spotted when we were here last time.

So off we went. We first stopped of at Swartland Wine Farm to get some of their yummy wines for the holiday and then off to Ceres. For some reason, the car was jam packed. We both agreed that we were not going to buy anything. Just chill and read books.

Nom Nom.

Love these old Dutch Houses. Tasting room at Swartland.

Friday afternoon was so hot we jumped straight into the hot tub. The water was cold, and it cooled us down. Then we just read more books.

Our home for six days.

Beautiful scenery.

View of the Pear orchards.

Sweltering Hot.

Chilling.

Angelina started her first job as a waitress and sent me the "Fridge" pic.

I also started to read Pass the Torch by Ilze Alberts and even started to read a third book, The Revenge of the Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell. It was the gift that Joanne got me for her Secret Santa. I read his first book 25 years ago and all the others he has written over the years. Of the three books I am reading, this one is my favourite.

Saturday was the same, cold swim in a cool hot tub and reading books.

We had lovely thin lamb chops (Mano’s style) on the braai and both fell asleep early. You know that feeling when you wake up and go “Oops” I wasn’t supposed to sleep that long. Nonetheless we decided to do some star gazing and go back to bed.

Sunday, today, was the same.

We woke up, I lit the hot tub fire as it was cold today. It was awesome to sit and just look at the pear orchards and the hills and mountains. Then we went for a nice long walk around the farm as the weather was cool. We made a yummy breakfast. After that Joanne is reading, and I am on the blog.

Spending every possible moment with the love of my life Joanne.

Pears everywhere. Millions and Millions.

Not ripe yet.

Spectacular tree outside our spot.

View of the house from the road. Very secluded.

Joanne and I found out that Loxtonia Cider was just 5 minutes away and she was craving cheese, as we forgot to bring cheese, so off we went.

Got the photo.

Must do the tasters first.

Done. Both Joanne and I are not big fans of Cider, but we gave it a go. Joanne like the sparkling one and I like the dry one.

When we walked in I could smell this amazing smell and then saw Beefy Ben's. Only after we had the cheese platter and the Cider tasters and a cider each did Joanne convince me to have a burger. I fraught hard, but she knew best.

Ok so Ben only works in Ceres and only on weekends. I am gonna look him up on Instagram and follow him. You should too. @bens_burgers

Ben's Burger got a slot in my top 5 of all time.

Simple small and tasty.

Presentation was: 8/10.

The burger was perfect size, I.E. not too big.

The bun was soft, full of sesame seeds: 9/10.

The burger patie got a 10/10. It is what drew me to the stall, the smell wafting in the wind. Ben was telling he only uses brisket and only grinds it once. I did not know that.

The sauce was good: 10/10.

The gherkins; I did not taste them.

Chips; I opted out as we just ate a cheese platter, but they look like MacDonald's fries, my favourite, after Zuney, beef dripping fries.

Thanks for reading, until next week.
