Richard Scott Blog - 12 January 2025

Monday, what can I say, we were all still on holiday.

Joanne and I bought this 2nd hand book in a PADSTAL on the way back from Ceres late December, written by Erica Platter and Clinton Friedman. We tried this recipe and it was delicious. Try it. You try my curry, you like my curry, you buy my curry.

Tuesday was a little different, as Joanne and I decided to start the 2025 year and do that laborious task of deleting emails and setting up 2025 directories on my Computer. I didn’t even take any photos, Monday, or Tuesday.

We spotted a moth on our chilli plants. Apparently moths pollinate a lot of flowers.

I took the opportunity to zoom in to see the detail.

Wednesday was the first day I took a few photos. Joanne started her year in the office, albeit it ½ day. She was off at 6.15am after we had an early morning road run. We were both quite excited to get going. I woke up at 4.30am for some reason wide awake. Must be something to do with good energy for 2025.

Espresso Time

The house was once again like a train station with staff, cleaners, and couriers and and and. Good energy all round.

Hendrik harvesting our first potatoes.

Ta Daaaaaaa.

Joanne shopping for Gammon. She found it on special at less 50% at Woollies. We were both craving Gamon, since Christmas.

Thursday I once again woke up at 4.30 and lay in bed watching the sea and the waves crash. I opened the door a little to let the cold breeze in and to hear the sea. It was quite warm in the house.

When I designed my house I wanted a sea view from each bedroom. Why not.

I made some notes for the day and then we got up and went for another 5am early morning run around the block. It was tougher than Wednesday for some reason, even though it was overcast.

Joanne was off to work, and I started my day with an Espresso. I have gone off coffee lately. I am thinking it was a phase during the holiday, as I enjoyed it sitting on the deck with my mind going at 5000 miles an hour.

I did have the house and studio to myself Thursday, so it was nice to focus on work in the silence of the morning. Minus the sound of the wave of course.

I took the liberty of painting the famous Pig Jumping Over the Moon, from my Nursery Crimes Series form 2005. Quite  fitting I think.

Getting my eyes tested by Anton, once every year.

A photo of my eye. Apparently normal. I cannot see much, excuse the pun.

Joanne came home from work early and whisked me off for our annual eye check-up. Then home to watch the last two episodes of  STAY CLOSE. Quite a good series.

Friday I decided to go into town and run a few errands, as Joanne had to work Friday morning. I dropped her off and caught up with admin and staff whilst havingnice Shift coffee. I then spent R500 on two rolls of Sellotape. R250 a roll. I have to buy it because it is acid free, and I use it to stick the prints down so that it does not damage the prints.

After that it was off to see John at Hout Bay Gallery and have a really good 2024/2025 catch up.

It was great to spend time and discuss 2024 and the plans for 2025.

CLOSED, not for long.

Welcome to Hout Bay Gallery.

DON'T STOP.

Two Road Signs hanging out with Candice Dawn Blignaut's "Chaos found his ball".

Spotted some "My Car" dinky's amongst artist Chonat Getz

And I am off.

Before I knew it, it was 11am and I was off to pick Joanne up at 12 and off to have lunch at the restaurant, Charles, where Angelina was waitressing.

It was nice to see her working and even better to be served by her. The food was delicious and the service impeccable.

Working Girl.

Such an honour and such a proud Dad as Angelina decided to pay for our lunch. Do you want a tip, or do you want this sketch? Hee Hee, just kidding. I am not quite where Picasso was, yet.

We decided to donate blood, but chose the wrong day of the week as the Blood Bank was chock-a-block full. We sat it out, nonetheless, we gave our bit to civil service.

I seemingly struggled to donate for some reason. It took forever to get a pint out of me. And to add to that Joanne fainted twice on the way home.

Blah blah blah.

Waiting patiently (excuse the pun) for the swelling to go down.

Then off home to try and have a little alone time. We both just chilled and had an early night.

Saturday morning, we both felt like a million dollars. So much so that we decided to walk all the way to the village and get a POSTNET parcel that was waiting for me. The latest batch of stickers.

So, get your orders in.

The round trip was 7km and we walked on the beach there and back. Joanne decided to buy some t-shirts and some dried mango along with some more dried fruit. I had to carry it all back on the beach in our big CO-OP bag.

So, as I type this on Saturday afternoon, I realise I might have bitten off more than I can chew, with my shoulders aching. I guess anther early night.

Kidding. We cooked supper for the kids, and I cooked and cut up that gammon Joanne bought on Wednesday. It made two full XL plates for the week.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday. Up early, beach walk, green juice for breakfast. No Sunday lunch as all the kids were out and about enjoying their lives and we can chill for Sunday. I. E. No need to cook a big Sunday lunch.

So, next week's blog will have more art and studio content, compared to the last weeks where we all took a month's break.

Thanks for reading.

Until next week.
