Weekly updates on what happend in Richard Art life in the last 7 days
Monday morning, I had three options to go into town.
1. Go in with Joanne early (which was not an option as I needed to get that Monday admin done)
2. Go in with the Vespa (As from the photo above, you can see that was not an option)
3. Go in with Chad in the Caddy and kill a few birds with one stone.
Monday I had to go into town, so I swapped my Monday routine with my Tuesday one. I did manage to plan my week before I left. The main thing I had to do this week was get the art ready for my talk at Steyn City Gallery in Johannesburg on the 5th of December.
I have the honour of doing a one hour talk on my life and career. It is the talk I have done so often to transparently tell the world how the art world works. I did the talk/tour to some collectors on Wednesday this week, in my studio, and at the end of every talk people say “and I thought artist’s just sit in front of a canvas and paint”
So, as I was saying, I am preparing some graffiti on paper works that will hang in the gallery during the talk. It is quite an honour to be there. It all started when I had a meeting with Kim Reid in Knysna and we got talking and he was telling me about his involvement and that I must see Bianca of Steyn City Art Gallery, which I did and now I will be hanging there and doing a talk to their clients.

Some new Gold Graffiti spray works. These works have about 5 different layers. I paint something and then spray over in gold and the start again until I am happy. I love that the signature r-i-c-h-a-r-d is spray over in gold and not so prominent.

Chad loaded the van, and we were off to town. We were off to run some errands.
Nom Nom. We got there early enough to avoid the queue.
It does not look like much but, oh my word, it is by far the best ever Steak and Salad sandwich.
Like Bertus Basson says: Simple, but delicious. Masala steak, lettuce, tomato, cucumber all between two simple government loaf slices. Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom,Nom.
Even Chad said it was best he had ever eaten.
Then we were off back to the studio. Joanne came home and we decided to eat some leftovers as the freezer was getting rather full.
Monday afternoon Hendrik and I got stuck into breaking down a wine barrel I painted on. I was not quite happy with it, so I decided to do a Sean Weldon and put it through the “Circular” process.
The ever faithful and hard working Hendrik, like me, he never says no and loves a challenge.
We are gonna screw this piece together and see how it looks and feels. It already looks good.
Tuesday I went into work with Joanne. After dropping her off I had an 8am meeting with the man himself Jacques Lagrange at Jason's Bakery in Green Point. I bumped into Jason and had a quick catch up. He is just back from a nice long European holiday.
Richie sent me a mock-up of the 3D printed "Big 5", a series on which I am working on. This is kinda what they will look like when I cast them in 24Karat Gold.
Coffee time and another catch up with Jacques. We spoke about the wedding and then his charity event and then a special event at his house to celebrate his newly acquired Richard Scott Gold Money Tree.

After Jacques, we headed to see Charl from Worldart. Charl was moving premises, as he needed a change. Quite weird to see the old Worldart not there anymore after so many years. The new spot on Long Street is in prime position, and I wished him all the best as he showed us around his new space.
Charl is one of five key people how helped me and my career to get where it is today. Thank you Charl.

Then we were off to see if Chef Liam Tomlin at the Chef’s Warehouse to see if I could convince him to make me one of them Mexican burgers he did for Hudson’s Burger Bar in October.
Liam was not there but the Host suggested Iron Bar across the road. So off I went. Nom Nom.
Here we go.
Eating the complimentary starter while listening to a message from the love of my life Joanne. Always connected both in soul mates and telegraphically, and telepathically.

I am not sure why I am on this Burger eating/reporting journey. Let's see where it takes me.
Ok, the burger from IRON got a solid 7/10. Presentation was: 8/10. The burger was perfect size, I.E. not too big. The bun was: 9/10. I do not like double patties, but they were delicious. More on the side of well done, but very very juicy: 7/10. The sauce was good: 8/10. The gherkins were perfect: 10/10. The burger came with that nom nom mayo: 10/10. Chips were ok-ish: 6/10. It is so difficult to compare after you have tasted Zuney's beef dripping cooked chips.
After lunch I headed off to pick up Joanne and we ran a few errands’ before we got home to a nice early night.
Wednesday was a “Everybody in the Studio Day” to help pack and label and touch up and and and.

I found this old Hard-groud Etching with pastel from 2004. I cannot remember doing it.
Richie invited me to play tennis with him here in Melkbos at the Country Club. It was a lot of fun, but a real workout. I won the first set 6-5 and he won the second set 6-4. We called it a draw.

Simon and Susan came for a studio tour, as mentioned above. Simon and Susan own a cleaning company, and I see them every Wednesday when their team come to clean the house, and I have been promising them a tour for ages.
Thursday, I headed into Hermanus to see Marisa and Werner at Wooden Ways to drop off some lighthouse prints they ordered. It was good to see Marisa again.

After Woodenways we were off to see Joshua at Rossouw Modern in the heart of Hermanus and had a nice lunch with him.
I got to meet the artist Carol Cauldwell at Joshua's gallery in Hermanus. She is the artist that does the rabbits and other animal mixed with human bodies. Very cool

It was super-duper cool to see Joshua. Joshua is one of them people you need 10 minutes with every morning when you wake up, just to make you laugh.
Lunch with Joshua was great, as always. The burger was 5/10. The beef was well done and not medium as asked.

Presentation was 6/10. The burger was a decent size. The bun was: 7/10. More on the side of well done after asking for medium: 4/10. The sauce was normal sauce and not enough: 4/10. The gherkins were good: 7/10. No condiments: 0/10. Chips were really good: 7/10. Onion Rings made the Burger: 10/10
The trip to Hermanus seemed short, and the trip back seemed long.
Angelique dropped me off at the BMW garage, as Joanne had arranged to fix the tear in the seat. I then picked Joanne up and off home as it was a mini-Friday for Joanne, and she works at home on Fridays.
We chilled and played cards on the deck till late.
Friday was great. Both Joanne and I got a really good night's sleep for a change. I got stuck into work and so did Joanne.
I added the final touched to the new graffiti works for Stein City, 5th December.
James sent me a great photo Friday afternoon. Great memories with James A.A. Thompson in a Bentley Wraith back in 2018. Back then when I had access to lots of nice cars. Look at the looks on our faces.
Joanne popped out to get her hair done and I did a bit of html coding on my home intranet.

Saturday morning Joanne and I went for a beach run. It was the first in a while. I struggled.
Joanne did well, but I struggled as you can see.
Chad invited us to go to the Coin Show in Century City.

The rest of Saturday morning was in studio. I am under a bit of a deadline for these graffiti works.
We have access to a number of Cap Classic bottles, so were tasting it. It is delicious.
Backgammon and Champagne. Enjoying life.
Sunday was another beach run. Got to keep it up now that summer is here.
We are planning Boerewors rolls for Sunday lunch, and a good turnout this week.
Oh, before I forget, Old Johannesburg Warehouse is auctioning off my Graffiti bike and the paintings to go with it.
