I missed last weeks blog due to my laptop that died.
Monday I drove into town with Joanne then headed to Jason’s bakery for a Richard Scott Pty strategy meeting with Angelique.
It’s the middle of winter in South Africa when the business slows down a little, but we were cruising at full speed.
We discussed all the clients, collectors, and galleries in a full page of notes that I make.
Carl Smyth popped in for a quick catch up and a coffee. When I say quick catch up with Carl, that always ends up in hours passing by as we get so absorbed as friends.
Carl took a cool pic of Jason's Coffee.
Carl is helping me, as a sound board, on a new business venture we are embarking on.
Traveled the world we have. Yet Cape Town is our home.
Then it was off to the computer shop to pick up my new laptop and then off to see John at Hout Bay Gallery.
I popped into clay cafe on the way to see John. I wanted to speak to Chris about pigments for my ceramics.
Off to Clay Cafe.
Colours everywhere.
We were a little early, so I drove around Hout Bay for a while looking at all the progress since I lived there 25 years ago. Richie was born in Hout Bay.
We caught up with John and headed to Chapmans Peak for a quick bite and to continue the strategy meeting. Always good to catch up with John.
Hello John.
The famous Chapmans Peak Hotel
Portuguese Steak in a pan. Nom Nom.
Plans were made for Johannesburg next week and then London in September.
Then it was time to head to Joanne and pick her up.
We headed home where Joanne made a nom nom lasagne for supper while I caught up in the studio.
Tuesday was another full-blown strategy session at the studio on the new venture. It was a bit of a blur, but it’s all written down on paper.
Pack up my own works.
Thursday morning, we got up nice and early and headed to town. I had a breakfast meeting then a session with David Trappler and then 4 errands to run.
I dropped Joanne off and headed to meet Carl at Jason’s bakery. We agreed to meet at 7.45am believe it or not. I got there at 7.30am, ordered a double espresso and took the extra time to do banking and staff tasks for the day,
I also managed to get my daily TO DO list updated just as Carl arrived.
I normally only drink one coffee a day, but Carl was in the house.
By the time he arrived my double expresso was finished, and I joined Carl in having a quartado and a Jason’s brekkie bun. Crispy bacon with a soft egg on a nom nom flapjack type bun. Two bites and it’s gone. I do not normally drink milk but it’s tradition to have a quartardo when Carl is around.
Angelique popped into Die Kantein and sent me this pic.
Richard Scott everywhere.
We caught up as usual, 1000 miles an hour. We shared stories and confided in each other and finished off with a strategy/soundboard session. Carl has always helped me get direction on all those brilliant ideas I get in my “forward thinking” ahead.
We planned on a hour to catch up which turned into a blink of an eye 3 hour catch up.
We finished off with some green tea which was welcoming after 3 of Jason’s best ever coffees.
Time to say goodbye and I was off to see David.
I managed to quickly pop into ORMS to sign a large Oh Candy Candy Candy print for a collector in Durban.
Had to get the pic.
Then just in time for David at 11.
David is one of the best psychiatrists in the world and he is helping me to unpack and repack my past so I can get clarity and have a beautiful life. It’s working.
After David I popped into Shelflife to pick up some more graffiti spray paint for the gold and silver stencils that had a good life creating my graffiti artworks.
It was time to spray them gold and silver so they could become artworks on their own.
I had a chat to the sales guy asking for the owners number as I wanted to see if Shelflife would be keen to sell my Richard Scott circular graffiti cans in there new store on Bree street.
Then it was off the Builders warehouse where I picked up some sealer for the windows on the house. Hendrik just finished painting the house and we needed to add the finishing touches. Although owning a house is ongoing maintenance, as you know.
I wanted to pop into Deckel edge to pick up some more 22 carat gold leaf for the Cape Town prints, but I ran out of time.
Cape Town gold leaf hand embellished prints.
Off to pick up Joanne.
Our plan was to donate blood then go on a date lunch. We were both feeling flat so decided to donate tomorrow and treat ourselves to a date lunch at Melkbos kitchen.
I forgot one of my stamps I use to sign my prints at ORMS, so we popped past and picked it up.
Off to Melkbos.
We shared a sushi platter and a bottle of Groot Post Chenin Blanc. The sun was out so we sat on the deck 5 meters from the sea and soaked up the sun and love for each other.
We took a nice slow drive back along the beach and both potted around the house.
I got a Richard Scott fire going with a huge tree log on the fire and we watched that Kellogs movie on Netflix. Some good actors in the movie.
We had an early night as Friday and the weekend was gonna be busy.
Friday, we worked from home. I spent most the day loading software onto my new laptop. It’s nice having it but a pain to copy everything across. You know the drill. I spent some time with Chad on the new venture then it was time to put a massive log on the fire for the weekend and chill.
I put the biggest one I have on as Saturday we were not there and I was keen to see if it would burn to Sunday.
Saturday we had plans to go to Greyton for the day to do some business.
Joanne decided to book us into The Greyton Lodge for a change, very reasonable.
So, we were up at 6.30am with a stiff Richard Scott coffee and a quick shower.
I packed the car while Joanne made me an egg mayo sandwich for the road.
We had to stop at Pergrine for a fresh juice and a ginger shot. Joanne bought some biltong for padkos and off to Greyton.
We arrived in a thick mist and headed straight to the lodge to check in.
Then off to the market to get the usual. Bread, samosas, local honey and olive biltong.
Take a small break at the Greyton Market.
I wasn’t in the mood for a pancake as the egg mayo roll was still digesting.
I did make the effort to scoff down some of the famous Belgians Samoosa’s.
Then we popped across the road to see Frik at Greyton antiques.
Frik has a really cool modern room that my artworks work well in.
He also loves my prints and acquired two for himself.
Then we were off to see Jill at Once More With Feeling, Joanne’s favourite little boutique clothing spot in Greyton. Luckily, Jill was in today and we got to catch up.
Joanne thrifting again in Greyton
Then we popped in to see Alaister Barnes and Sylvia to talk art. Always great to catch up with Alaister.
I gave him some of my Richard Scott base and a little jar of each colour of pigment for him to play with.
By then the mist had lifted and the bite was out of the air. It turned out to be a beautiful day. It was time for a stroll down to the village for a pint in the pub. Lol. Greyton is basically like a small English village.
Some fans at Greyton Brewery. Cat and Vanessa.
It was nice to sit and watch the world go by.
We planned to go for a big long hike on Sunday morning and as I type this siting in the sun on Saturday afternoon once again outside Jill’s spot as Joanne popped in a 2nd time to try on some of Jill’s gems. Then home to chill.
Sunday, we packed up and headed to see Chris at Via’s to talk about the Greyton Art Walk in November, then we were off home. We stopped off at Peregrine again and bought pies for Sunday lunch.
Until next week
