Weekly updates on what happend in Richard Art life in the last 7 days

Richard Scott Blog: 9th July 2023

Richard Scott Blog: 9th July 2023

The week started off with a bang. On Monday I managed to finish the five large graffiti prints I did for a collector in Johannesburg.

Another collector sent us a photo of the PACK IT LIKE A BOSS series piece he received. These works are done on the side of packing crates

Then it was admin admin and admin. I managed to get all the admin caught up. Today is 3rd July and I was a bit behind on payments. Not like me but the Johannesburg weekend took it out of me. I also did a little homework on the stamp collection. Remember I bid on that black bag full of stamps and won. Well well I have got Hendrik on it and he has sorted all the stamps into the correct countries. We’re going to start with South Africa cataloging them form the earliest stamp to the last. There are stamps in there with 1D on from way back in 1935.

Some good old classics from 100 years ago
South African stamps everywhere

I stoked the fire and waited for Joanne to come home. We had supper, a foodie on Netflix and then early to bed.

This weeks old photo is of me way back in 1998 doing a photo shoot for a hair stylist. I remember I worked at LO-TEK in Johannesburg and one of the guys there, I remember his name, Steven Beddingfield asked me if I would model for his wife who was a hair stylist. It was a lot of fun.

I remember I had to do all these weird poses, but it was fun

Tuesday the Electrician came over and spent the day at the house putting new lighting in the studio as it’s a bit dark in there. I put a disc out of joint while moving stuff around and was in pain for 3 days. It wasn’t that painful but I looked like a old man when I got up out of a chair or in and out of bed. Blah

I did some more stamp sorting on Tuesday. It is addictive.

Angelina came over in the afternoon and we caught up. Joanne decided on fillet steak and roast veggies for supper. I pan fried up some garlic and sweet basil bread and cooked the fillet over some hot Kameeldoring wood coals on the braai. Joanne oven grilled a whole cob of broccoli and cauliflower along with her famous roast potatoes. Dean and Daniela were also over for a few days and we all scoffed the lot. There was only enough for a small lunch tomorrow.

My back was still killing me but I was coping. After supper we played Uno and other circular word games which was a lot of fun. Then it was off to bed for a early restful might. Joanne has been having nightmares for the last few nights so we thought an early night would do the trick. It did.

I rolled of bed Wednesday morning as my back was still very sore. Joanne pilled me up with Norflex and we were off. Wednesday morning was the first day of the week I went to town. We parked Joanne's car at work, I said goodbye to Joanne and ran across the road and jumped into Angelique's car as we had a 8am appointment at Andrew Rothchild’s Gym for a networking morning. Andrew introduced us to lots of his clients and it was great to meet lots of new people and converse with people from all over the planet.

Andrew noticed I was in a lot of pain and asked what is wrong. Within 30 minutes he organized me a appointment with his physio next door Alexa Davidowitz. Her husband Mark came to chat to us and I signed a book for him.

Meet Mark. Very cool
Angelique and I met Lizzie and she took some stickers and did this and then posted on Instagram. How cool.

After my physio appointment I was good as gold. We said our goodbyes to Angelique and headed back to the Gallery. I caught up with Chad and decided I needed a pizza from Pizza Connect in Woodstock. We shared a Margarita with Italian salami. It was delicious. We all agreed that it was the best pizza we’ve had in a while.

Nom Nom Nom. Pizza Connect in Woodstock

I headed upstairs to do some more blogging and here I am in time right now. 5th July 2023 writing to you.

I finished up and Joanne picked me up and we headed to Checkers to do some shopping. Then home to the kids. We treated them to Fornaria Pizza. We wanted to sit down but Maurio was fully booked. I was so happy for him. Imagine an Italian restaurant in Melkbos, 5 minutes’ walk from me, fully booked. So we ordered takeaway, had a quick drink and headed home to eat them. Nom Nom. Once again, for the second night in a row, we played games with the kids. This time it was Pictionary on the white board. I won a few times. LOL.  Early to bed.

Great Fun

Thursday, I stayed at home and caught up a bit with Admin.

I managed to get a wonderful photo early morning of the sun rising up over the mountains. East facing.

We were a bit behind on the stamp sorting, so I offered Hendrik's son, Nando, a job for a week, while he is on school holidays. So, he got stuck into soaking the stamps and removing the paper off the back of them. I asked Hendrik to sand down Joanne’s old childhood table. She wants to restore it. She was telling me how she would crawl under the table as a toddler. So, it is gonna be cool to restore and relive those memories with her. We could not decide on original wood with varnish or white. She will make a call once it has been sanded down.

The famous Table and wonderful photo of the love of my life. Will post picture of table when done

Angelina woke up early in a fright as her driving lesson instructor was 2 hrs early so, she rushed out and did that. I played around with some AI Art generation software. Quite cool. I have not found what I’m looking for yet, but I will.

Angelina popped out with Angelique to a dress shop to look for a Matric farewell dress. I carried on with admin. After the dress hunt Angelique dropped Angelina at Joanne and they drove home together. Angelina managed to pop into The Sneaker Shack to pick up our newly cleaned sneakers. I can highly recommend them. I had some left-over Nachos that the kids made for yesterdays lunch. It was yum yum.

Try them. its worth it
Nom Nom

I did some touch-up on the REBUL Cad files. I’m gonna make a massive Ana sculpture and see where it takes me. It's something I have been working with John Hargitai, from Hout Bay Gallery, for years. Will send you some pics in the making.

The green parts were missing. so the guys at REBUL will add them in. Software transition glitches

Dean and Daniella came over and we played cards and games like we used to do on holidays for a second night in a row. It was cool. I did some grilled chicken on the fire grill.

Games time

Cheers to cooking and cheers to life

Friday was another home day as Angelina was visiting for the week. I saw Joanne off and did a bit of clean house as Joanne was running late. I then got stuck into some woodwork on the shelf I made in the shower. Angelina and I sat around the table most of the late morning. She was doing Geography and I was blogging, paying SARS, etc. That time of the year. Chad sent me some photos of the newly framed USED GIN Bottle Stencils. They look so cool. These took 2 years to make.

For Sale

So awesome to upcycle and turn, what you would normally throw away, into money

Joanne came home and we popped off to put new tyres on the BMW. R16 000 later. Can you believe it. Bob was there, the owner and a good friend, so we had a cup of tea with him and the kids and caught up.

Good old catch up and a cuppa tea
Bob getting up to no good with my stickers

Then we came home and braai-ed chicken on the bone and had that with a bacon pasta and my new famous tomato sauce.

We had a good debate around the table about racism and then we all cleaned up and sat down for a 3rd night in a row for games. This time we played General Knowledge on paper, once again, like when we were kids. Another early night as Joanne had an early hair appointment and I had some catching up to do.

Mike Joubert sent me a lovely message: BTW. I was part of a lovely pitch recently with Gary Shap, CEO of Tudortech. and guess what hangs in his office?

Beautiful piece in Gary's boardroom

Saturday, while Joanne went to the hairdresser, I potted around the house. I have this thing where I must clean up 20 things. Either put them in their place or throw them away. I also cleaned the studio and got the balance of the blog done. Joanne made the kids some breakfast before she left, and I made the kids some chicken strips with lettuce for lunch. Joanne came home and we made an oxtail for Sunday lunch. All the kids were out Saturday night, so Joanne and I were home alone with Tom Segera’s new Netflix series.

Sunday, we stayed in bed till late as lunch was cooked. Joanne did a 3km loop around the block and we got ready for the day. The kids rocked up and we had a super-duper Sunday lunch. Angelina made us an awesome carrot cake. We were graced by Ian’s presence. Joanne’s brother. He was educating me on Blog Tips and some cool Art AI programmes. I am definitely going to take heed.

Everyone helped clean up and then we played some more cards and that is the week.

Until next week.
