This week Monday I woke up and decided to do something different today. Do something different every Monday. I saw Joanne off to work, in the freezing cold darkness of 3 degrees at 6am, and sat on the couch and wondered what it is I would do. I decided that every Monday I would take the day off. Not as in physically working or creating but mentally take the day off. I wrote down a list of stuff that would not mentally challenge me and it went like this:
- De-clutter the studio
- Start building the Kitchen Island
- Go play a round of golf
- Call Chris Basson and ask him if he can teach me how to trade on the stock market
I decided on Option 1 and went into the studio and started cleaning up. When Frans and Hendrik came in I said “New rule, Monday is finish stuff around the studio that has been lying around for ages”. I gave him 3 options:
- Paint the glass vases that Selwyn bought in for us over 2 years ago for charity.
- Graffiti spray paint all the branded boxes and bags from famous brands that I want to complete and exhibit as part of the Street art project
- Sort out the stamps once and for all.
- Spring clean the studio.
Frans opted for completing the glass vases and Hendrik opted to spring clean. So off we went.
We completed all 8 vases. We managed to clean up.
Applying the acrylic pen.
4 completed splash glassware.
My REBUL POP-UP shop design.
I managed to spray the 3D prints for the show in January and also completed the Exhibition poster prints I’ve been meaning to do for the past 4 years. I also got to date over 150 sketches I dug out the archive. There are over 600 drawings, etchings and doodles I have done over the past 20 years. Here’s a few pictures.
I'm wanting an exact colour for this series of 3D prints. the supplier of the strand, do not make the colour I'm looking for: Tiffany Blue.
There will only be 1 available of each girl. I'm waiting on Richard to 3D print me the white inserts.
Daniel of Cape Diem Lodge in Green Point, Cape Town posted about the Richard Scott Cappuccino Cups that they are now using at the lodge for the guests.
Joanne came home a little later than usual. She had a facial with Wilscha. We decided on leftovers for supper. I had the Lentil lasagna from Sunday lunch and Joanne opted for plain lentil bolognaise. Joanne potted around the house while I finished off upstairs with the sketches. I used “one a week” opt out card to not go on our short run.
Later, I continued the “not using my brain” into the evening as we watched Jonny Knoxville’s new series on Netflix. Not sure how I got through it as it really is brain numbing stuff. We had an early night as were trying this new routine of up at 5.30am and go go go.
Joanne asking me on Whatsapp what I am doing, so I sent here a pic of me printing Exhibition Posters.
Rummy, my rules and Joanne's. I won both tournaments.
Tuesday morning was painful. I woke up feeling crap. It put me in a bad mood. Still suffering with like a brain fog. While driving to Cape Town, Joanne cheered me up. We got to town at 7am. A bit early so we drove past Andy’s flat that we will be staying in in the coming months. We got to Joanne's offices and I popped upstairs and sat with her till 7.30am while Joanne worked and I caught up on the free Wi-Fi.
The love of my life.
I had a 7.45am meeting with my long time good friend Sean Weldon. Sean and I go back 20 years. He is the person I know who is the most connected. Mention a name and Sean had lunch with them last Sunday, or she and his late father go back 45 years.
The famous Sean Weldon
Anyway, we caught up and then Sean showed me a really cool project he wants me to be involved with. I cannot wait to apply my mind and time.
I introduced Sean to Craig, Joanne's boss. He was passing by and they got on like a house on fire reminiscing about rugby days and all the people they know.
After a 2 hour connect with Sean, I popped into ORMS to drop off a print to be framed. Then it was off to Alexa, my Physio Therapist. Last appointment to sort out my back. Then a quick hello with Andrew and Paul at Sweat 1000. Then back to the Gallery to do a sales meeting and catch up with Angelique and Chad. They were packing gin bottles that were been shipped off to Germany and Johannesburg respectfully. Here is a picture of me completely confused at how there going about it. Pack it like a boss.
Then it was back to work and then fetch Joanne and head home. We first popped into Andy’s flat in town to see if all was ok. Then it was off to Checkers to get some bits and pieces for the fridge. We ended up getting a crab salad for supper at the Checkers Sushi bar. It was yummy. Simple and yummy. We did our 2.4km road run as Joanne and I are both trying to loose a bit of weight before we head to our Croissant eating excursion in Paris is September. After that we had a nice early night.
We have a client interested in this piece, so we sent him a photo.
Pack it like like a boss. Do you have one of these?
The famous Les Sweindan of High Road and George Dalla Cia of Dalla Cia wines.
Do you know who this famous South African Italian man is?
Wednesday was no different than Tuesday. I was in town at the Gallery. It was different in the fact that I do not normally come to town on Wednesdays, but I was a little behind in meetings etc.
Thursday, same again, popped into the Gallery and caught up on sales. I managed to catch up nicely with Chad and his sales. We popped out to see Mervyn Gers and talked Tequila with him Shireen and David. The 3 prototypes will be out soon and then we can start with pre-sales. You gonna love it
Always get the photo. David, Chad and the famous man himself Mervyn.
As I read my own Blog and insert pictures of my week, I can't believe how many amazing people I meet each week. This man is the most amazing person. He's like me: ask me and consider it done. Thanks Selwyn.
Signing a one off print for a special client.
Me being me. One day I'll be famous.
Doc. Trevor and Andre.
Me in my happy place in Woodstock Brewery.
Doodling.
After Mervyn we headed back as Selwyn popped in to catch up. We talked tequila, golf and Adidas. LOL. It's always good to have such positive people around you and Selwyn is also not afraid to share it. I managed to get a few more Pack-it like a boss artworks done just before they were sent off. There were Taxi strikes all week and Thursday was the worst. All the roads were blocked, so Joanne popped in and we enjoyed Woodstock Brewery’s IPA day. Tinus the head brewer decided to treat us with 6 single hoped IPA’s. Wow what a treat. They even canned all six in a blend so we could take some home. Nom Nom. While there, Doc Trevor popped in. It was good to see him. Then it was home time as the roads were cleared. We had an early night again. Joanne and I are trying this early to bed thing. It's working.
Friday was slow. I got some studio work done and chilled a bit.
Saturday Joanne and I did a beach run for a change and then popped out to the Stamp Show in Bellville. That was quite interesting. I didn’t realize there were so many stamp collectors and stamp dealers in Cape Town. We chatted to a nice lady called Emma and she educated us both on stamps and how to invest in them. I bought two more albums from Volker and browsed through his South African collection. It was impressive.
Then we drove home and chilled on the couch for the rest of the day.
Sunday, we did a road run and then the plumbers came round as we were without water for 3 days. The Pressure control valve broke. They fixed that by eleven. Just in time to sit down and have a late Joanne Robert’s pancakes breakfast which was Dean's all time favourite.
Just as we clean up the dishes, we started the pre-Sunday lunch. We opted for a “Clean the Freezer out braai”. i.e. Get rid of all the odd stuff in the freezer. It varied from chicken burgers, to wors, to T-bone steak. Richie, Angelina, Victoire, Dean and Daniella joined us, and it was a great success.
This weeks old photo is of me when I was a baby in Springs, Johannesburg. I apparently used to love this contraption. LOL
Until Next Sunday
