Last Sunday was my sister Angela's birthday. So, I thought it fitting to add in a pic here of myself and her when she was just born. I think I was about 3.
I look proud and scared at the same time.
This week was a busy week. It started with a coffee and a catchup with Selwyn at Giovanni's. Always good to see him. He has become a good friend and a mentor. He is a very smart man and very connected and influential. When Selwyn got to Giovanni’s he told me he drove from his house in Tokai via Llandudno to Green Point. It reminded me of Jean Hermans picking me up at Brussels Airport and how I was thinking to myself how important I must be if Jean Hermans comes all the way from Leuven to Brussels to pick me up. I had that same feeling today with Selwyn and it made me feel good. Thanks Selwyn.
This man has taken my career to the next level.
After Selwyn, I popped out to go see Mervyn at Mervyn Gers Ceramics. It was so so so good to see him. I forgot how powerful his input was. I was nonchalantly talking to him about the Richard Scott Tequila bottles and he says “why black and gold” let's use platinum and let's use colour. Watch this space...
The famous Mervyn Gers on the right and David who heads up the show.
I spotted these amongst the other ceramics. I felt like I was part of the furniture. great feeling.
I left Mervyn on a high and decided to stop at ZORINA’s café and get me a toasted masala steak and salad sandwich. It's not something she has on her menu but its my special Halaal sandwich that reminds me of the days I had my own company Shocked and I was the only non Muslim person in the whole company.
Nom Nom
Nom Nom x 2. Simple but delicious.
I scoffed the sandwich in the car like I was at a roadhouse and licked my fingers and headed back to the Gallery at Woodstock Brewery. I got stuck into making some payments and am typing this to you right now while having a nice Woodstock Brewery beer. In about 30 minutes I need to leave and go fetch Joanne and head home.
Tuesday I was at home. I decided to swap my days around this week as Joanne and I were off to Simonstown Friday to see a man about some stamps. I got stuck into some odds and sods in the studio. Richie popped in and dropped off some experimental inserts for the new idea I have around the 3D prints. We had a cup of tea and caught up a bit on his flying career and other stuff.

It was so lovely first few days of the week with all the rain. I felt like I was back home in England. Joanne came home and we potted around. The power was out for an extended period of time so we decided to walk to the Italian in the rain and enjoy a pizza and a bottle of wine, but he was closed so we turned around and walked home in the rain. it was so awesome.

Wednesday I popped into the Gallery again as I had a talk at the Gallery and then upstairs at the Brewery. It went well. It was nice to earn a living from talking to people. Very weird sensation. Being paid money to talk about yourself and your journey is great.
Super proud of myself
Were you there?

Richie sent me some pics of the 3D print inserts. You gonna love it.

Joan popped in from Southern Stroll Marking to pick up the print I donated to the Some Like it Hot auction. The tree raised R18 000 for her cause.
Only 2 left
A German collector Robin sent me some pictures of a newly acquired piece he bought from my German Art Dealer.
Angelique and I worked our butts off to make the Gallery look good for the guests before the talk. I then went to pick Joanne up and she treated me to a nice winter soup lunch at Clark's on Bree street. Joanne opted for the cauliflower cream soup and I decided on my 2nd favourite after mushroom soup, the tomato soup. It came with a toasted cheese sandwich on sour dough bread. Who would of thought? That was a fantastic idea. I stole it and added it to my collection of recipes.
Nom Nom
Thursday I was in town again. Work work work. I decided to photograph 3 works that I cheekily call #packitlikeaboss (Pack it like a Boss). Its where I paint on my packages and add value to them.
Some of my own favourite work.
Joanne worked from home Friday and we had an appointment with the stamp guy in Simonstown. I also wanted to ask him advice about the stamps I bought on auction a while back. So we got up early, did some work checked in, went for a run. I checked in with the studio to finish off the Classic Graffiti Girls piece on paper. Then we were off to see the stamp man. It was a nice drive; we took the east coastal road.
The stamp man guided us on what to do with the stamps. So, we bought two nice albums to start with.
Then it was off to check into our little pad. It had a beautiful view.
Simons Town our for a day.
The love of my life.
We unpacked checked in with the kids and googled best places to eat. All our sources, including Joanne’s boss Craig, pointed towards The Lighthouse restaurant on Queens Road. We called Brian at the restaurant and they were fully booked. I suggested to Joanne she call Brian back and ask him if we could come earlier for an early supper. He agreed and we went down and shared a beautiful bottle of Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc and the fish of the day, Yellowtail. We got Brian to guide us and did not look at the menu once. I like ordering like that. It’s a travel tip. It got Joanne thinking that we must write a little book because I am always quoting my travel tips to her.
Enjoying good food.
Cheesy Photo of me. Blah.

Saturday morning we got up went for a nice walk in the rain and headed to Casa Labia in Muizenberg. We stopped off at The SweetestTthing Patisserie in Simon's Town for a brunch. We had a roasted tomato and olive quiche and spinach spinnekotte and the best freshly squeezed orange juice we have ever had.
Always take the photo
We had to stop at Kalkies in Kal Bay for Fish 'n Chips
To many things to choose from. Keep it simple.
We popped in to see artist Kevin Stanley. Joanne bought a nice piece from him.
Kevin and Joanne
Saturday evening, we crossed the main road and railway line to find a small path that lead us to the center of Muizenberg. We wandered along the beach and checked out the newly furnished colourful beach huts. We took lots of pictures. Muizenberg is so clean. Lots and lots of surfers. We stopped off at the local and had a pint of beer.

Loving the colour
Casa Labia. Loved it.
Nothing like walking in the rain.
Then we headed back to the hotel on foot via the main road. It was lightly drizzling so it reminded me of being in Pangbourne.
We booked the best table in the restaurant at Casa Labia and ordered the rib eye and paired it with Del Aire Shiraz. Then it was off to bed.
Sunday morning we decided to enjoy the hotel so we had breakfast and headed back home via Olympia bakery to pick up some bread and desserts for Sunday lunch. Dean and Daniella offered to make Sunday lunch and it was really good.
Pic of the week.

My niece Amy and Thorne joined us for lunch and a serious game of UNO. It was great to have them around.
Sunday lunch.
The Storm hit as the kids were all leaving. Joanne and I sat by the fire and did some research on all sorts of topics, from weddings, to houses, to Paris.
Have a great week and thanks for reading
Until next Sunday
