Richard Scott Blog: 30th October 2022

Richard Scott Blog: 30th October 2022

Monday started like Mondays do. Do I need to explain? I don’t think so. I got stuck into my emails and banking and chipped away at Monday. Vince called and agreed to connect on Tuesday which allowed him to meet up with the guys at the Tutu Foundation and finalize the Tutu Art Box. Frans and Chad made their way to Carl to finish off cataloguing his collection. Angelique was messaging me all morning about this sale and that sale. It seems the season is bringing back the clients and buyers and collectors, even though we are supposed to be in a recession.

Tuesday I was in the shop and had block booked the day for Vince. We met at 10 and caught up and discussed some business. Vince was here to meet up with the heads of the Desmond Tutu Foundation to complete the final step of the Tutu Art box that I orchestrated in 2012 and, produced 17 paintings with the Arch himself. The Tutu Art Box, which is Vincent’s brainchild, will launch soon and you will have the opportunity to buy pieces of Arch Art.

Vince and I met for 2 hours to discuss the outcome and also the launch of the Tutu Art Prints. We took a short break where Vince wondered off to the Biscuit Mill and then popped in to see Andre, the proprietor of Woodstock Brewery, and one of my 5 best friends.

Vince, an avid golfer along with Petra his wife, spotted this last Autumn Golf print I did with Selwyn Eagle and Steenberg Golf Estate at the 2022 South African Women’s Open. Vince asked me to personalize it for Petra.

I had a quick meeting with Leigh from Plettenberg Bay, who was in Cape Town for a few days. Leigh works with my art at the Junction, Plettenberg Bay, and the greater area. We spoke of a cool launch and social media tagging idea that will help the Shark Spotters in Plettenberg Bay. Watch this space.

Leigh and Angelique. Leigh took all the pool pillows 🙂

After the meeting with Leigh, Vince and I had a lunch meeting and discussed some more business on the international auction scene with regards to my art collection in Rotterdam and London. Joanne joined us for a late afternoon drink at the Pepper Club before we headed home and Vince headed to the airport back to Rotterdam.

Lunch at Kloof Street House. Vince and always order french style rose. We decided on the L’Avenir Glenrosé

Wednesday, I did lots of catching up in the admin department and in the studio. I had some reject 3D printed key-rings that I decided to create a cool melted object. I got the idea from a Enrico De Paris sculpture I bought in Venice way back in the early 2000 with Marco Garbero. I got to meet the artist and bought one of his cool sculptures, which to this day hangs in my wine cellar.

Having fun with a blow torch

Thursday, I was back in town. I had an awesome ride in to town with Joanne. We discussed our Paris trip and even a quick short trip to London on Boxing day to catch up with the family and do some business. News to follow.

Early morning coffee with Joanne at Tamboers Winkel

I raced to the shop where I helped Chad set up my pinball machine I brought in from home. We are getting it serviced and are going to have weekly Pinball Championships.

Me very soon, once its back after a service.

Afterwards Angelique had me booked for 3 meetings. 9.30am with a potential client in Sea Point, 11 am at Waterfront and then Martin Baule in Camps Bay to discuss giving the Richard Scott mural a new lick of paint.

 Baule’s Paradise Camps Bay

Martin invited Angelique and I to a lunch at Paranga in Camps bay. I love Martin, Martin makes we want to be a better man. Martin makes me happy. We had a super duper lunch. Christine and the kids joined and I caught up with Christine as well. She is a very intelligent lady with a very big job in the Global Rating Agency space.

Out of the 8 phones at the table, 4 of them were Richard Scottiefied. Thanks for the pictures Christine.

After lunch, I picked the love of my life up, at her work and we headed home. Dean called in and was craving Fish and Chips so we used the opportunity to do some shopping for groceries and headed home. We dumped all the groceries, unpacked them and went to get Fish and Chips at the local. I quickly put a bottle of bubbly, a glass and we were off to the Chippy. We decided to get a extra portion for ourselves and eat it on the beachfront. I surprised Joanne with the secret bag with bubbly and we ate cheap fish and chips with expensive Champagne.

2 fish and chips please

With Champagne please

Friday: Joanne was working from home. We got up early and did coffee, work catch up. I headed off to see Nadia, my therapist. Its been a while as she is so good and gave me all the right tools to help me deal with my wants and haves and reality.

After therapy I popped in to see Bob at Dunlop Table View Tyres to rotate the wheels on Joanne’s car. Bob is a great guy. He helps Richie with his Private Pilots License and also helped me with purchasing an aeroplane. Without Bob we would not be as far down the line as we are.

I tried to convince Bob to do stand up comedy because hes so funny

After catching up with Bob and him having me in stitches I popped back home to pick Joanne up. We had a long list of things to do:

  1. Vitamin B injection
  2. Deckel edge to buy board for the prints
  3. Pop into the shop to sign a gold tree Silkscreen
  4. Drop off the Silkscreen at ORMS for framing
  5. Pop into Martin Baule’s in Camps Bay to pick up my backpack that I forgot there
  6. Go to the Waterfront as Joanne wanted to update her work wardrobe
  7. Treat Joanne to a nice sushi lunch at Willoughby & Co.
  8. Go Home
  9. Watch a Horror movie
  10. Go to Bed

Gold Money Tree. 2/14. Gold acrylic on paper and silk screened tree

Nicola brought brought in the new Tote and Beach Bags. The Tote bags are made up of the JEans i wore over the last 10 years in my studio.I have no idea why i was saving them all this time. So i decided to paint my art on them and then ask Nicola, the lady that does my cushions and pool pillows, to turn them into Tote and Beach Bags. The khaki bag was made from a pair of Daniel Hecter Chinos. The black Tote bags are made from a pair of Superdry cargo pants. I loved those pants so much. Then there a few blue denim ones coming made form G-STAR RAW jeans. They are available on in the shop on richardscott.com. You gonna love them.

 My little paradise

Saturday we tried to have a “Do not start the car” day. We were successful. After an early morning beach run we had a yummy breakfast on the deck. We had a kinda lazy day. At one point, Joanne came over and said she was bored. That’s a first. So she started to read her book while I was updating this blog. I made us a nice Boerewors Breedie for lunch. You must try the Mexican Tomato and Onion mix from Rhodes. It’s delicious. We potted around a bit more and played some Saturday afternoon cards before I cooked us a nice fillet. We decided on Steak Egg and Chips for supper. Early night and early to bed.

Sunday was also a lazy “no drive car” day. Joanne invited Melanie and Michelle over. Her friends from Hout Bay. We decided to treat them to our famous little Italian restaurant on the corner; Forneria Italia. All the kids, bar Richie, are studying for final exams. Its that time of the year so we didn’t see them for Sunday lunch.

Melanie and Michelle and the kids with full bellies

Until next week
