Richard Scott Blog: 28th May 2023

Hello.

Ok, lets start with the Weekly Old Photo:

This is a photo of me on top of my Volkswagen Beetle back in 1996. I took a few at different angles and then joined them together to create an Animated GIF file. I was a bit of a genius at it. I thought I would never see the file again until I decided to google old web pages and lo and behold some company stores old websites from way back in 1996. Here is the animated GIF I created. I will post a link at the bottom that takes you back to my old website. Some of the links are a bit broken but you will understand what I was up to 30 years ago. I put a really cool animation I did of myself at the bottom of this blog.

So, Monday I worked on the 3D print sketches. Every now and again there is a reject or prototype 3D print. So, I decided to do a sketch with each one and sell them as a unit.

This is Ana in glass or wire-frame mode. I asked Richie to render this on his computer so i could print them out sand colour them in.
This is me adding some Spray paint to the Blue Carmen piece.
This Ultramarine Carmen was painted with a very unique product by the Bronze Foundry. They wouldn't tell me what they used but only that artist Beezy Baily used it on a bronze sculpture called Peace Man. Google it.
This was the first attempt at printing multiple colours. They have only recently come out with a splicing machine that allows you to print different colours. You know me, I'm always ahead of the game. Who would of thought that you could 3D print a Candy Girl.
This is a reject Grey Carmen the I sprayed with Graffiti paint and then coloured the edge in with a chrome koki pen. These are all prototype 1/1 editions.

Tuesday morning was chilly. Chilly but nice, cause you could put a coat on and there is nothing like tanning on a beach and the flip side of donning a coat to keep warm as you step outside. So Joanne put on her new Zara trench coat and off we went into town.

We were both feeling a little bit in ZOMBIE mode. Joanne and I are both waking up with wishy washy heads every morning for the last week or two. We're kind of booking it down to COVID or the vaccine, or even a mix of middle age mixed with winter and dark mornings. Do you feel the same?

Either way the feeling passed after a shower and Joanne and I were off to Cape Town. I had a productive day Tuesday. It started with a bit of admin at the Gallery then Angelique and I headed off to see Andrew Rothchild of SWEAT 1000. He was looking for a new piece of art. One thing leads to another and we were in his and his brother Paul's Gym in Sea Point on Thursday morning to discuss a Joint Venture.

Paul and Andrew

Back to Tuesday, After the meeting with Andrew I picked Joanne up and she surprised me again with a Movie Date at The Labia. We watched How to Catch a killer. Fairly good movie. We enjoyed a slush and popcorn. After the movie we went to exchange her Steve Madden shoes I bought for her birthday. The heel broke. They were very accommodating, and Joanne even got another pair while there, discounted by R2000. So that was a pleasant experience. Good customer service wins. We then headed home and only got home in the dark. We left in the dark and came home in the dark. Haven't done that in a while.

Joanne strutting her stuff with some serious high heels.
Nothing beats shoe shopping.

I made Joanne a nice Sirloin steak and we were off to bed early.

Wednesday I managed to complete 2 of the 4 new big Graffiti on Paper Works I have been meaning to do in the theme of the Richard Scott Gin Bottles. Citrus Yellows and Blue Naval themed.

Citrus Girls. Summer Us!

Signing the piece.

The rest of the day was cleaning out the studio. I popped into storage quickly to get some metal panels to give to Jared at BMC to experiment with the Chrome Mirror Series.

Joanne came home early and we both flopped on the couch and caught up with each other's day. The kids came over, so we cooked them steak in a mushroom sauce and some crab spring rolls. And Joanne made a chickpea salad which was delicious and healthy.

We had another early night after watching a foodie program on Netflix. Mind numbing stuff.

Thursday, I woke up and it was off to Cape Town again. I had that meeting with Andrew and Paul of SWEAT 1000. Watch this space. It was one of them 30-minute meetings that ended up in 90 minutes but it still felt like 30 min. Afterwards we popped into Johnny Shwarma in Sea Point. I’m on a mission to try all these new pop up eateries that are everywhere now after COVID. The Shwarma was delicious. Go try it. While there I was telling Angelique that the 90 minute meeting we just had with Andrew and Paul felt like 20 minutes it was so energising. I said to her it was like that meeting we had with Graham Britz in Johannesburg a while ago when a guy sitting in the corner said I know Graham Britz. I asked the gentleman who he is and we were still talking 20 minutes later. His name was Graham Lindenberg. I took a photo of us and sent it to Graham in Johannesburg.

A must. Very very yummy.
The famous Graham Lindenberg.

Then it was back to the shop for a quick blog update and then off to fetch Joanne. We headed home and got the fire going. Joanne made us a Durban Curry and I warmed up some mushroom soup. We sat on the couch and talked house. The buyer who was interested in the house didn’t sign the agreement on time so we guessed he’s not a serious buyer. We decided to take the house off the market and live in it forever.

Early to bed and up real early as we checked the loadshedding and were off from 6am. So, I got up and made coffee before the power went out and we headed to town. Joanne booked us a nice lunch at Cellars Hohenort.

Friday was the same, get up, shower, go to Cape Town. I got stuck into making parcels look good.

Having fun.
Attention to detail.
One more piece to the Pack it like a boss Series.

Mark Gold popped in to say hello and catch up. We are going to produce 8 whiskey goblets for the Vespa shop in Johannesburg. Pics to follow

Mark Gold, always take the pic.

Joanne was off at 12 so I picked her up and we headed to Cellars Hohenhort for a lunch. It was quite good. Not Bertus or David, but nice. After lunch we took the tour of the place to see if we liked it for our wedding in case our first choice Klein Constantia does not work.

Enjoying each others company for lunch.

After Lunch we headed to Clay Cafe to pick up all our goodies from Dean's Birthday. It was quite exciting to see the pottery after it has been fired. My Richard Scott cheese board didn't even make it into the oven as it broke. But the Clay Cafe are very smart. They gave me a voucher which encourages me to come back and spend more money. I like that idea. I will take a feather out of there hat on that one.

The final products. Some really good ones.

I'll start the bidding at R1000. Who know what this would of been worth?

Saturday we went for a beach run and we worked on Joanne's new Auction Me business  for the rest of the day. There was also some good results on my art on the Russel Kaplan Auction that took place on Saturday.

Early night again and lazy Sunday. Me managed to get out of bed at 9am and went for a road run. Afterward I got stuck into the blog and then made my mom's famous meat and potato pie.

Making my moms pie pastry.
Ta daaaaaaaa.

Until next Sunday

Have a great week
