Richard Scott Blog: 23rd July 2023

Monday was admin at the studio in Melkbos. It is our winter season here, so everything is very quiet. The Cape Town art scene is waiting for Spring. I on the other hand have been using the time to re-align my career. Angelique popped into the studio and we thrashed out plans for Spring. Everything from another POP-UP shop in Plettenberg Bay in December to the sale of a beautiful Candy Uma Original with Gallery Jane Griffiths at Val-d'Isère, France.

I potted around the studio a bit and dabbled with the stamps. We’re now sorting Germany and the Netherlands.

Joanne came home and we cooked some Waterblommetjie Bredie. It is basically lamb green bean stew, but you replace the green beans with Waterblommetjies. They are wild water plants that are endemic to the Western Cape.

Tuesday, I dropped Joanne at her offices and headed to the Gallery. I checked in and then headed out to run some errands. Deckel Edge for some Posca Pens and then Merripak for bags and tubs etc. I got back to the Gallery and there was a courier guy Eitan who was dropping off a parcel and he said he can’t believe he’s meeting me. He follows me on Instagram. I gave him some stickers and he was super chuffed.

Meet Eitan

I ran upstairs to chat to Andre and he introduced me to Craig Hinds from the rock band Watershed. It was cool to meet him. He was pitching his wine label to Andre and I got tasting as well and ended up buying 6 bottles of his White Chenin and 6 of his Red Blend. It’s delicious. I packed up and headed to The Sneaker Shack to collect my cleaned sneakers and then picked Joanne up and we headed to see Orette, our relationship therapist. She was super happy with where we were. Then home. Joanne made us a simple tuna salad with the left over cucumber, onion and tomato salad from the weekend. It was yummy. We had an early night as we were both tired.

Wednesday Angelique and I popped into see Andrew again at Sweat 1000 to do some networking. It was great to meet so many cool people. At 10am I headed to see Alexa, my physio to tweak my back a little. Then back to the Gallery to do some sketching for packaging. Richie popped in to say hello and dropped off the prototypes of the new 3D printed Lighthouses. It was good to see him and catch up. Then it was off to pick Joanne up. We had a date planned. She took me to the Old Overture Restaurant at Hidden Valley wine farm. We were just in time for a quick lunch and a celebratory bottle of Champagne to start the celebrations of our 4th anniversary weekend. Our first date was at Overture on 21st July 2019. We did some wine tasting with Ruhan and bought a case of their Red Blend. Then back home to pack for the weekend in Cederberg and an early night as we had to get up early.

Great to meet Ayrton

4 Camera's. Feel honoured.

Pack it like a box. Spot the new Lighthouse prints.

Always good to see the kids.

At Overture where we first met Celebrating our 4 year aniversary.

It's Thursday now as I type this. I’m sitting at the Gallery doing admin and about to create some content on the new works that have arrived in the Gallery. Then it's off to have lunch with John from Hout Bay Gallery. We always do Portuguese and John has chosen his favorite Cape Town Portuguese restaurant Disa. Pics to follow.

After lunch I picked Joanne up and we were off to the Cederberg.

Rest of the week in pictures:

This weeks old photo is of me when I was about 2. It was taken at my mom and dad’s flat in Benoni in Johannesburg. It is a pic of my late sister Susan and I clearly enjoying ice-cream. My mom and dad Emigrated in 1969 from the UK. I was 9 months old. My mom and dad and younger sister, Angela, moved back to the UK and only myself and Susan made South Africa our home. The rest is history.

Until next Sunday
