Richard Scott Blog: 20th November 2022

Hello there. Ok, this Monday was a good day. A lot of people ask me who does your marketing and I say “ME”. Well I also do all my own admin like filing and Quickbooks. I do have an Auditor that does all the really hard work, but I myself run my own business like a Swiss watch. Most of my Monday mornings consist of banking and emails and once you start with emails you know how that goes. I do get my Social Media stuff in before emails because emails take the longest. I was also told recently that I don’t do enough on Social Media. I’ve toned it down a bit as I want to generate good content like this blog. Can you imagine the content I will have in 10 years time after typing a blog like this each week.

I got my 100 golf ball practice in at the driving range. I seem to be getting the hang of it. Vernon a trainer at the range approached me as he can see I’ve been there allot. He would like to train me. I said I first want to hit 1000 balls then do it. He suggested I do it now and correct my mistakes before it becomes muscle memory and my mistakes are an even bigger job for him to fix. So I took his number and will give him a ring tomorrow and set up some lessons.

Monday afternoon I realized that I spend too much time on Sundays on the blog, so I am going to be typing daily now. So its 14h41 on Monday afternoon and bingo, I’ve already nearly covered Monday.

I did really well on Wordle this morning. I got it in 3 goes. As my dad would say “Not just a pretty face”.

I had the mash and spinach left overs for Monday lunch. I used some of the carrot and onion gravy Joanne and I made yesterday for lunch. It was even better the 3rd day. Yum Yum.

As I type this 14h46, I just got a message from Joanne saying she is working late today so that gave me a little time to get some prints done.

Testing the paint and bottles for Wednesday painting spree. See Below

I managed to get some golf in and decided to get some help to tweak my game. I asked Vernon a coach at the Melkbos Driving range and he willingly agreed.

Richie and Victoire popped in on Monday afternoon to catch up. They are off to Mauritius for 6 weeks soon. We spoke about FOH, our aeroplane and also caught up with the 3-D prints while he is away as he is the person who prints them for me. Joanne and I had an early supper and an even earlier night as it was load shedding.

Tuesday morning, I wondered downstairs to put on the coffee machine and guess what, load shedding. It’s sad. So I put on the gas stove and made us a nice pot of peculated coffee in one of those small Italian Bialetti peculators. Then we were off to my gallery and Joanne’s offices respectfully. Joanne dropped me off at the gallery as she had to do PA stuff and pick up Craig etc. I got stuck into my TO-DO list for the morning before a meeting with Selwyn at 11.

Angelique and I popped out to see Johan, a new startup gallery called Mojalefa Art in Riebeek Kasteel, a small quaint town, far enough to be out of the city, but close enough to be 1 hour away. It went well and we agreed on a few items for his show on Thursday night. So if you are ever in Riebeek Kasteel ask for Johan. After our meeting, we had a quick bite to eat and headed back to my Studio in Melkbos.

If you have ever read Laurance Graff’s book about how he used to peddle his jewels in cases and traveled the world until he became the worlds number one jewel dealer. Moments like this remind me that I’m on the same path

Wednesday, I was up early again as I had to be in Stellenbosch at 9am. I needed the car so I dropped Joanne at work and headed to the shop to pick Frans up. We needed to go to High Road Wines and complete 120 bottles Richard Scott Graffiti style. I worked it out that it takes us about 2 minutes per bottle from start to finish. We managed to finish by 12pm. Les and Madison from The High Road wines invited me to do a collaboration with them on some unlabelled bottles. I call it UP-CYCLING. The wine is their 2017 Classique. It is one of High Road’s best produced blends and 2017 was considered a vintage year. We launched the wine today (Thursday as I type this) and we have already sold 26 of the 60 Twin Packs. As the week progresses I’ll let you know if there are any left by the time you read this on Sunday. I did just send out a email to you, so no excuse. I hope you bought your Twin Pack.

Very proud to be here with this very very established wine of High Road Wine. Not often you get an invite to doodle on some very expensive wine

After completing the 120 bottles we had a quick lunch at Pene Vino. We were right next door, so who wouldn’t take advantage of that. Lunch finished early and I did the reverse route back to town to collect Joanne and head home.

the famous Pane Vino and Elanor’s cooking. Veal and Capers

We got home at 15:30 and had to leave at 16:00 back to Cape Town for the launch of the wine at the Culture Wine Bar in Bree Street, Cape Town. I worked out that I spent 6 hours on the road on Wednesday driving up and down. That’s alot of time driving. After the event we headed home and had a nice early night.

Les, Joanne and Madison. Madison runs the show for Les at High Road

Thursday morning I heard all the beep and peeps of all the appliances going off at about 4am. I.E. We had load shedding in the night and the electricity came back on at 4am. Well that didn’t help because I was, all of a sudden, wide awake at 4am. I tried to wake Joanne up, but she wasn’t having anything of it. So I just stared out to sea and let my mind drift. We eventually got up at 5am and went for a run around the block. That’s something we haven’t done in a long long time. Then, off to the shop again. But first a quick coffee with Joanne at Tamboerswinkel. A lot of driving this week. I got to the shop and forgot my key at home. I only had to wait 5min for Chad. We caught up as he was on study leave last week. We discussed the Art Box launch, the High Road Wine launch last night and also the Mark Gold Collaboration for Monday. Then Chad had to go do deliveries and pickups. There were 7 different destinations from client drop offs to studio pick ups to dropping some art with Johan in Riebeek Kasteel for his opening tonight. I had a quick fish and chips at Woodstock Brewery. One of the best I’ve had in ages. Then off to ORMS to sign a print for a client and then to pick Joanne up.

Joanne had a facial with Wilscha, she’s the best. Even Henry asked me why am I looking so young. We had 45 minutes to kill, so we popped into Henry’s Kloofnek Gallery. I spotted a Kyle Jardine that I love and want to acquire. Jean offered us some water and then Uwe Pfaff walked in. I haven’t seen him for ages. Like 15 years. I loved his very early stuff. After Joanne’s facial we drove home. It was around 5pm in peak hour traffic.

Kyle Jardine’s beautiful piece. Wow, so in love with it.

We got home, opened a bottle of High Road Wine and put our feet up. Joanne worked from home on Friday so Thursday was our Friday. It was such a busy week.

Friday we both worked from home. I had a golf lesson with Vernon and Richie popped in to drop off a Orange 3D Mandy Print. Angelina had a Christmas concert and we all went to go see her dance. It ended at 9pm so straight to bed when we got home. I made us some real simple hamburgers with raw onion and tomato. I put Steers Peri Peri sauce on it. It was almost as good at Bertus Basson’s De Vrije Burger

Yum Yum

While at Angelina’s concert at Van Riebeek Strand Primary School, I spotted some artworks I did with the students of the school back in 2017. They started the piece and I finished it. I think the deal was the school keeps it until the kids leave at the end of grade 7. The student gets to keep the piece.

Saturday morning we decided to have a no car weekend. So we just chilled and read books and searched for property to buy. Well that didn’t last to long because we spent the rest of the day cooking and fixing stuff. I started with a fillet braai and we cooked 2 beautiful egg and spinach pies with mushrooms and feta. While Joanne got stuck into the Spinach in the garden, I decided to pic some radishes. We scoffed them like cherries. They were so delicious.

Nothing beats harvesting your own food

Well its Sunday now and Joanne and I got up real late, went for a run and I played golf. We have kept our deal of running every day and golfing every day since last Sunday. After that we had a beautiful breakfast on the deck. I popped into my studio to prep for tomorrow. Here is a few pics of the mess.

Richie popped in on Sunday afternoon to chat FOH and now I’m sitting here typing the last bits of the blog.

Thanks you for reading. Have a super duper week.
