Richard Scott Blog: 18th June 2023

Monday was a blur. I only started typing the blog on Wednesday and I could not remember what I did on Monday. I had to check my camera to see what I was up to. I know I was at home inthe  studio. I remembered spending lots of time researching stamps.

A crate going to a collector in Italy. Lucky collector.
Graffiti on construction planks.
Andreas Bill sent me a few pics of him and Pete Rupert in Iceland again. Pete and Andreas took Richie and I to Iceland in 2017.

Smile guys. Spot the Scotts.

Tuesday I was in town and had back to back meetings from 8am. First up was Ryan Joffee for a coffee. We ended up walking around Kloof Street looking at buildings. Ryan owns half of Kloof Street buildings, and he showed me his new spot that is gonna be stacked with super cars soon with Daytona. We had a coffee and shared stories.

Meet Ryan and Joel.
Richie dropped off the fancy 999 Ducati at the Gallery for some added colour.

Then it was off to the Gallery in Woodstock to connect with Selwyn and talk Tequila numbers. We finally nailed down the quantities and what is going in each bottle. Selwyn is really helping me with his wealth of knowledge.

We also discussed out charitable JV. Were gonna do some more Richard Scott High Road wine bottles and the likes. Lunch has been set up with Les in July.

Always nice to have Selwyn in the Gallery
I popped out to go see Myles at Rebul to discuss two exciting projects I want to do with them. One is a pop-up fold out cardboard concept and the other is huge sculpture. Myles showed me around the facility and I love going around factories like Rebul and seeing how they put everything together. It's quite fascinating how they make cardboard boxes out of football field sized machines.
Myles showed me around the Rebul factory. Very very very impressive.

Then I was off again back to the Gallery to have a quick staff meeting and then off to pick Joanne up. She fancied fish so we stopped at woolies and got a nice piece of salmon which we grilled with baby tomatoes on a bed or broccoli.

Gallery shot.

Tuesday night was a huge storm. There was so much water it filled up my pool which has never happened in the 15 years I've lived here. There was even water in the house. I clearly forgot to replace the seals on one of the windows. You got to love house maintenance and water. You can’t fight nature; you have to find your zen and accept that each year during the winter storms water will find its way into your home. Wednesday morning Hendrik and I climbed on the roof and identified the problem and will fix it when the sun comes out again.

It's Wednesday now and its still stormy. I really am loving the Cape Town rainy weather. As I type this I am looking out at the sea and, if I could, I would pat myself on the back. I reminded myself of how fortunate I am to be able to type to you and look up and watch the stormy sea. I will take a  pic quickly and share it.

Picture from my desk as promised.
I got up on the roof to investigate the leaks after the storm. Check out the Richard Scott Cat Chimney. Table Mountain is there somewhere in the background.

I managed to do stacks of admin on the day, before Joanne came home. We made salmon pate with last night’s leftovers and had a real early supper.

I potted around in the studio and then we settled in on the couch and chatted till bedtime.

Wednesday I was home again all day. Still stormy so I got the fire going as soon as I got up at 5.30am. Joanne headed off to town and I started summarizing the “Richard Scott Art Talk” offering. Details to follow. I spent some time going through the stamp collection. It’s the one I bought on auction some time back. Hendrik and I are sorting them out into countries and then i will put them into some nice albums.

The rest of Wednesday wasa  blur. Oh, I did manage to stamp over 100 of the old sketches from way back in 2002.

Thursday I once again headed in the direction of town and the Gallery.I bumped into Tony at Tamboerswinkel, had a quick coffee and a catch up and headed to the Gallery.

The famous Tony Coleman.

Selwyn dropped of a 12 litre bottle of High Road Wine Directors Reserve for me to paint for an auction.

Then I sat with Angelique and Chad and had a sales session. Then I was off to collect Joanne as we had a few errands to run before we had supper with Harold and Joanne. We decided on a quick lunch at The Wok Bar off Kloof Street and then a dirty martini at the hotel next door.

Wocking.
Martini-ing

We then headed to see Mahdis at Persepolis to catch up. Mahdis owns the gallery with my signs hanging up in the prominent spot opposite Harvey’s Liquor Corner Wale and Buitengracht. I also bumped into Partick, a resident artist there. We caught up and shared stories.

Meet artist Patikai Rapai. Google him.
Mahdis, Joanne and me.

Then it was off to Carpe Diem lodge in Greenpoint, best B&B ever, to check in for the night and get changed. Then we headed off for a lovely wine pairing at Judd’s in Kloof Street with Harold and Joanne. We had an awesome evening and left just before dessert. I almost fell asleep I was so tired. Then it was back to the lodge and bedtime.

Harold got a pic of me very tired.
The man and friend himself Harold.

Friday was Youth Day in South Africa so we could get up late. We had a nice breakfast and caught up with Bianca, Daniels fiance, at breakfast. Then I sprayed a Gold Ana onto the wall at the entrance of Carpe Diem Lodge. The wall was stippled and so there was to much overspray. I asked Daniel to paint over it and on Tuesday next week ill go with a brush and do it properly.

Me doing me to earn my keep.

After that we checked out and headed home to chill for the rest of the day. Angelina came over and we caught up and had a light supper of chicken skewers with onion and green pepper just like Angelina likes it and an early bedtime.

Saturday, we ran around doing errands and then spent the rest of the day at home. Richie popped in with the new concept 3D print. I think we got it right. It now has the white inserts like my painting and the black line on the outside. What are your thoughts?

My Yello Ana

Joanne messing about like Joanne does.

Sunday Joanne and I went for a run on the beach. It was freezing cold with a strong North Western wind blowing which caught us off guard on the way back. We had a hot shower and Joanne started prepping lunch as today is Father’s Day in South Africa.

Birds on a freezing cold beach.
A friend and a collector Louise, sent Joanne a picture of little Alex with his Dad's fathers day gift.

All the kids came over and we had a yummy Sunday Roast Beef and Roast Chicken which we haven’t had in ages.

Angelina made my favorite cake.

This weeks old photo is of the kids in 2007. Thanks for an awesome Farthers day.

Until next week
