Richard Scott Blog - 17th December 2023

Monday, Joanne and I slept in a little as she had a minor procedure at Cape Town Medical-Clinic.

She made me one of her favourite onion and cheese omelettes and I headed down to the studio to give Frans and Hendrik final day instructions for our Tuesday trip to Plett for the POP-UP.

I managed to do some cool PLETT prints. Frans managed to wrap them all. We did have to get Hendrik’s kids in again to help us with the small finicky matchbox artworks.

I took Joanne to the hospital and quickly ran to run 3 of the 8 errands I had to do before I went to bed. I bought some cellophane bags for the small matchbox artworks. Then I popped to Allied Fiber Glass to get some casting resin for the backgammon boards. Then off to Deckel edge to get more mounting board for the Plett prints.

Off to fetch Joanne, who was a little drowsy after the anaesthetic from her procedure.

I took her home and put her on the couch with water and blanket etc and headed back out to the gallery to get the last bits and pieces. I also picked up the wallets from Robin Sprong and headed back home. I only got home around 7pm and Joanne had made me meatballs and mash for supper. That was scoffed and then I had to re-pack the Caddy.

Frans, Hendrik and myself packed it so well that a mouse could not make a nest in it. I was telling Joanne and she reminded me of Chad's 2 big suitcases that needed to go in as well when I picked him up in the morning on the way. EEEEK. So, we took out the 2 pool pillows and all was good.

Joanne and I sat on the couch in the lounge and caught up with the kids and the day. Then we shared a glass of wine and went to bed early.

This weeks old photo is one Daniel sent me of him at my Vespa Exhibition back in 2013.

Daniel back in 2013 when we were young

Bye Bye baby, I'll be home soon.

I woke up at 4 am on Tuesday morning and remembered I’d forgotten the stickers for the tequila in the shop. I lay awake till the latest possible time to tell Joanne,  IE 5am and I bolted to put on the coffee machine and shower and get dressed. I called Chad to say I am on my way 45 min early. He also got up and made it on time. Joanne made us some yummy padkos and I was off to pick up Chad then Plett.

At 6 am while squeezing Chad's big case into the mouse nest size hole Hendrik called me to tell me he was outside the house with the folded Richard Scott wallets he stayed up till 1am folding. Joanne raced to meet us half way to drop off the wallets.

Simba from Robin Sprong with the wallets.

Yes got to see my baby again.

Chad and I on our way.

Nom nom, padkos.

On our way.

I did a giveaway for John's Church in Steenberg.

Spot the Scott

The ladies of Sharon AOG Church.

And we were off to Plett.

The road trip was good.

6 hours. It went quick as I was posting and blogging and banking and chatting to Joanne and cutting tequila stickers in the car and folding wallets.

It started showing signs of rain as we passed through Swellendam and was raining cats and dogs by the time we got to Plett.

We headed straight to see Heather, our host, and our home for 3 weeks.

We off loaded what we called Caddy 2 and went to fetch Caddy 1’s load. That was the load Joanne and I dropped off at the beginning of November at Selwyn’s house. That load had the frame on it for the main structure of the POP-UP.

We headed to Duncan at TOPS and started to set up the POP UP

Selwyn, Angelique, Chad, and myself. Everyone chipped in their bit. It took us 4 hours to set up and it looks fantastic.

My POP UP. I'm super proud.

Selwyn had a few deliveries of tequila and I got to meet Jonathan, which was cool. Jonathan bought a red tequila decanter.

Really cool to meet Johnathan.

At 8pm we decided to walk to The Lookout to try their famous fish and chips, which is a stone’s throw from the POP-IP. The fish bites were 10/10, and the fish and chips were a 5/10.

After supper we headed home to our little bungalow and had an early night.

I didn’t sleep well as I missed Joanne.

I woke up a few times wanting to cuddle her but only bumped my hand into the wall.

Wednesday morning, I woke up at 5am and decided to get up early and shower and catch up on Social Media and emails.

I gave Joanne a quick call at 5.15am as that is our normal wake up time. It was nice to hear her voice and chat a little. I ate a banana and two plums for breakfast from Monday's pad-kos.

The guys woke up later, so I decided to walk to the POP-UP. It took me all of 8 minutes.

We agreed to be there at 7am sharp to catch the coffee trade at the coffee shop next to the POP-UP. Bye 12 o’clock we had made our target for the day.

People were buying left right and centre.

I had to quickly pop out to hand a piece to a collector.

As I left the shop, I sold one of each of the 3 tequila decanters to Tin Korber, an old collector from way back when.

Selwyn dropped me off at Plettenberg Bay airport and in a flash, I was on my way home. As I sat on the small 18-seater aeroplane on route home I realised Plett was gonna be a success.

The flight was 1 1/2 hours and it was pleasant. It's been a while since I flew in a twin propeller commercially. Oh, and Selwyn and I bumped into Cy Jacob’s. Cy bought 2 each of the decanters.

It was awesome to be home after 2 months of hard planning with the POP-UP.

Before I got off the plane I chatted to Joanne and let the kids know I landed safely. Then I called Angelique to see how much more we sold since left at 2.30. There were about 6 more sales.

Off to home and early night.

Thursday was my 55th Birthday. Joanne took the day off and gave me my 3 presents she does every year:

A Need: Thai Massage

A Want: Golf Driver

An Experience: Taj Hotel supper with the family and a Cape Malay cooking course and Bo-Kaap tour experience with the locals in their home.

My orange birthday cake from Angelina.

Decided to book us all in for the night for the hell of it.

Richard Scott timed photo.

Lift shot after supper all on the way to bed.

Pieter popped in on Friday with a friend to say hello at the Gallery in Woodstock.

YEAH, Joanne finally got to go to the Edgmead Market to get the kids some nick knacks for Christmas.
