Monday nothing happened. Just admin and admin. Blah.

Tuesday I was up early and off to the airport for a quick Johannesburg stint. Clients, collectors, galleries and friends. Joanne dropped me off at Century City on the way to work and I ubered from there. Travel tip 102, always get to the airport early. Angelique joined me and we enjoyed a breakfast in the lounge and planned our trip. I had 100 3D printed Keyrings with me and four 3D prints and some touch up paint for Andy’s Vespa Magnetic piece. I also had two books by Gus Silber which I got at that amazing book guy in Barrydale, if you remember a few weeks back, I mentioned him in my blog.

I’m sat in seat 7F as I am a window kinda guy. I had a quick power nap and then decided to get the blog going. I will write a few paragraphs then I am going to attach the metal rings to the 3D key-rings. I only managed to do half of them last night.

It was good to see that Safair were using art inside their aeroplanes. The one we flew on had nice vinyl wall paper on the cabin walls and each fold down tray mat has the artist work on and a mention about him. Well done Safair. I wonder if all the other aircraft were the same or featured different artists.

Anyway, here I go finishing the keyrings. I’m sure Angelique will take a picture and if she does I will put it here. LOL

We landed around 11am and we bumped into Gert Viljoen, a big collector and fan of my art. We quickly caught up and about where each of us were in the art and business world.

We jumped into an Uber and headed to Andy’s house to off load a bit of luggage and then we were off to our first meeting with Annie Malan. Annie was the winning bidder at Gaynor Rupert’s Annual Golf Day and charity. It was a great honor to be able to donate to her cause and also to meet up with Annie. What an awesome person, 1000 miles an hour. I have a new best fan. Thanks for your support Annie.

I was telling Annie how cool it is that I have these super duper wealthy collectors of my art who have become friends and how they fetch me from the Airports in Rotterdam and Frankfurt and Brussels. As we were leaving Annie asks us “Where you going next”? I knew what was coming next. She decide to drop us off at our next destination and saved us an Uber trip.

The next stop was Tyrone at Eye Art. I wanted to catch up with him on the Johannesburg art scene. Tyrone is the most knowledgeable of all Johannesburg Art Dealers. I was also interested to see if he liked the new 3D prints as they are not available yet in Johannesburg. He loved them and wanted all of them as soon as he saw them. Tyrone is also going to take the large Graffiti Spray Girls that are also up and until our meeting, were not available in Johannesburg. So here we go. Pop in to see Tyrone and get your Richard Scott, finally.

After Tyrone, we popped in to see Mark, a new collector of my art and the owner of a super cool events company. One of the events Mark owns and puts together is the Daytona Rally. Wow. It’s an event where you drive your Supercar for six days through South Africa and experience some beautiful towns, race track events and locations. We discussed a collaboration where I potentially wrap a few cars in my Candy Artworks and produce some prints and artwork for the event. I brainstormed the idea on the Aeroplane back to Cape Town and came up with the Candy Supercar Girls.

After Mark we headed to go chat to David at Zioux. I don’t spend enough time with David. Next time I go to Johannesburg I am going to spend more time with David. We caught up and enjoyed one of Zioux delicious cocktails. Jessie, our bartender was very flamboyant in the making of them. Angelique tried the Agua de Me-hee-ko and I had the Nitro Pink-Panther. Both very nice. After that, we headed home for a early night. Andy was out for the evening on a business event and joined me only later to catch up.

I was up at 5am Wednesday morning doing my banking, emails and summaries of the meetings the day before. Andy woke up and made me a coffee. He could’nt resist a game of Back Gammon. He was thrashing me until the last minute and I rolled a double 6 and got out of jail and won the game. It’s so difficult to beat Andy. You have to play orthodox and do something completely random to throw him off. I went to go shower and when I came back he wanted to play again. He said “come on Richie, I need to redeem myself”. Well this time around the same thing happened and I won again. This was when Andy said “Richie, your making me humble today” LOL. We had another coffee and went on to our morning meetings.

My first meeting was a catch up with Gus Silber. Gus and I go back to the day I started painting and he bought some of my early works. We hit it off from day one. Gus is a very famous Journalist and Author. He has written many a good book and one of those “It Takes Two to Toyi-Toyi” I spotted in the book shop in Barrydale. Gus asked me to buy them as they were very scarce. So I did and gratefully delivered them to him. Gus is also the man that does all my editing and press releases. Remember the little red book?

After Gus, we popped in to see Alex at Russel Kaplan Auctioneers to say hello and have a quick catch up. Angelique manages all my auction activity and, up until this moment, her and Alex hadn’t met.

After Russel Kaplan Angelique and I spotted a New Balance factory shop and we popped in as I needed a new pair of shoes. I treated her to a pair for all the hard work she does for me. Then it was back to Andy’s house to recoup and do some emails and admin. Soon after were were off to have lunch at Saints, David Higgs’s restaurant. We had lunch with Luke. Luke is a new collector of my art. I like to meet with the people who buy my art and become collectors. It’s important to know the people that like your art and also to make them feel like you are accessible.

After David we were off to the airport via Wayne. Wayne has also collected my art over the years via auctions. Wayne asked me to do a mural on his new office wall. Wayne fixes cars, very expensive cars, so a cool Road Sign Series mural will be super cool in his office.

After Wayne we were off to the Airport and back off to Cape Town. Joanne picked me up from the Airport. You know when your waiting for someone at the airport and you see those people that run up to their partners, through security, and jump on them? Well that’s my Joanne. I love it.

I drove back home and Joanne made me a yummy supper and early to bed.

Thursday, I popped into the shop as Chad was on study leave. I managed to get some admin done as the shop was quiet. I had a hair cut with Nick. (Joanne was happy) and then I had a 12:30 lunch meeting with Les of Highroad Wines. We had lunch at Pane Vino. Our hosts George and Eleanor are always so welcoming. George makes the best Grappa in the world and Eleanor cooks the best Italian food I’ve tasted. I got to say hello to George’s famous dad Gorgio. Famous for putting South African red wine on the map with Meerlust and in particular, Meerlust Rubicon. It was nice catching up with George and Gorgio before Les got there.

Les and I discussed a collaboration of Highroad wines 2017 Classic and me painting 120 bottles.

On Friday, I went into town to man the shop as Chad was on study leave. I was feeling really run down. It felt like I had the flu, but it was pure exhaustion from Johannesburg and I’m under the hammer at the moment with a lot on my plate. I need to prepare the presentation for the Desmond Tutu Foundation which has taken quite a lot of thinking, planning and commitment. I also have to pull myself together and get all my art back from all the places that it’s on loan to. I have come up with a rental option which I finished on Friday morning and need to get out on Tuesday. I also worked on a response to Mark from Daytona Rally. He is keen to wrap his car with a Candy work. I used the rest of Friday morning to formulate a solution to create a Candy Supercar Girl series that I can license out and create a series of prints and potentially car wraps.

Friday Afternoon, I picked Joanne up at 12.30 as she got off a little earlier and we went straight home. I basically chilled all afternoon.

On Saturday, Joanne and I went for our beach run. While we were running, I gave her a challenge that we have to run 10 times in the next 14 days and, I have to hit 100 golf balls a day within 14 days at the driving range. She agreed. She really wants to get into her running and “Summer Beach Body” and I really want to take up golf again. After our run, Joanne popped out to the shop and dropped me off at the Driving Range in Melkbos. I managed to hit 3 buckets of 50 balls each which is 150. I did quite well, but I will need a coach to get the final bits sorted. I was a good golfer as a kid. My dad took me to Huddle Park every Sunday to play when we lived in Johannesburg. I joined Kempton Park Golf Club and used to play 3 times a week with my then school friends. I loved it. Joanne picked me up after her shopping spree, and we headed out to Diemersfontein Wine Farm in Wellington to an Italian day and the launch of their New Chenin from old vines. We had a lovely time and caught up with David and Susan, bought 6 bottles of the Chenin and headed home for a lazy Saturday Afternoon. 

When we got home, we quickly prepared the Lamb Shanks for our Sunday lunch the next day and then sat down and played Backgammon. Joanne was in a mood to watch a horror movie. We ended up watching that Jimmy Savile documentary on Netflix. I remember him as a kid and can’t believe that people can do that. It’s insanity. Anyway, we both fell asleep on the couch and ended up in bed at 9pm from an exhausting day.

Sunday morning, we got up early and did our beach run and after that Joanne made us a yummy breakfast. I haven’t had a really good bacon and egg sandwich for ages. We ran out of HP sauce, so I had it with that new delicious tabasco sauce that you get in Checkers. Its made by The Kitchen and comes from Dubai. It’s R11 a bottle and quite frankly tastes just as nice as Tabasco but different. After breakfast, I popped out to the driving range again and hit another 150 balls. I’m getting there. After that we popped out to see Chad. He needed help with his studies. While Joanne was helping him, I grabbed Chad’s laptop and started typing up Saturdays and Sundays blog. I am looking forward to heading home and relaxing for Sunday afternoon.

We’re back home now, about to eat my lamb shank and enjoy a nice bottle of Highroad Reserve.
