Richard Scott: 7th August 2022

Last Sunday’s show at Hout Bay Gallery was great. We had an awesome turnout and I met some really cool people. Exhibitions are exhausting but fun.

The whole week was a bit of a blur. as I type this on Friday afternoon, I’m trying to remember what happened on Monday. I did mostly admin on Monday and caught up with orders and emails.

I managed to finish the new Gold Tree print. I cut the paper off a roll and then flattened it and hand painted it with Gold Acrylic. After that I sent the sheets to Wim at Black River Studio in Paarden Island. He silk screens the tree on in 2 colours. The works are only editioned to 14. They are quite large at 128 x 100cm. I decided to keep the price affordable at R21 500.

Tuesday was also a blur. I worked in the studio and around the house.

Wednesday, I ran some errands. Chad came to pick me up in the Caddy and we started at the paint shop. I ordered some new waterproofing deck paint, then we went to Builder’s to get a new plug for the kitchen sink and some elastic straps for the Caddy for when we transport stuff. After that we went to see Brandon to sort out my 999 Ducati. Richie and I own two 999 Ducati’s. I have a fascination with them. Then we went to see Merwyn Gers to catch up on the Richard Scott Tequila (Agave) bottle.

Thursday night we were hit with Load Shedding again so I took to cooking supper on the fire.

Joanne just managed to get the veggies done in the oven. She has a real knack with roasted veggies.

Sweat Potato, carrots, onion and roast potatoes

Friday was going well until I decided to put in a new wooden shelf I just hand made into the shower. Yes, I drilled into a water pipe. As a round-the-house handy man like me its a great achievement to NOT drill into a water pipe in your life. Well there goes that. And to top it all off, I built this house myself so I should of known better.

Nonetheless, after swearing and cursing myself I decided to let Joanne know as she was at Pieter, the hairdresser in Melkbos. This is how the conversation went:

Angelina came over Friday afternoon for the weekend. YEAH. She’s the best. I took her to dance on the Vespa. We decided to take a picture of the sink hole near the house. You got to love the Road Signs.

After Joanne was done at Pieter at the Hair Corporation in Melkbos she took Dean to get his Matric Farewell suit.

Looking sharp

Friday Evening ,Andre at Woodstock Brewery, asked me if he could do a large print of the painting I donated to his Soup Initiative. He wanted to hang it in the Brewery.

In April 2020 Woodstock Brewery repurposed it’s brewing equipment to make nutritious soup for those in need during COVID . They used Woodstock Brewery staff and GCU volunteers. Andre involved chefs, a dietician and a food technologist. They produced 7,000 litres of nutritious soup per day. GCU decided to continue to supply hot meals to hungry Capetonians from their new premises in Epping.

Saturday morning Joanne and I took Angelina to dance at the Artscape and decided to hike Lions Head to get back into out summer hiking.

We live in a beautiful City

After our hike I treated Joanne to Sushi at the WOK BAR off Kloof Street. They still make the best sushi I have eaten

Yummy

Saturday afternoon, after out hike and sushi we picked up Angelina, Dean and his girlfriend Daniella and we headed home. As we walked in the door we shouted, “Help yourself to lunch”. Dean and Daniella made a chicken pasta with white sauce and Angeline used up the old bagels from New York Bagels, that Joanne’s boss, Craig, buys for us now and again. Angelina made home made Pizza Bagels.

Plain cheese, salami and green pepper

After an early supper the kids studied and Joanne and I played rummy and had a nice Gin and Tonic and Woodstock Weiss beer on the deck. The sun was out so we decided to soak it up while we could.

Guess who won?

Sunday morning Joanne and I had a real lazy morning in bed and finally got up to do a 5km beach run. I quickly lit a fire so the kids could wake up to the cracking of the heart of the home and I popped some bacon in the pan to draw out all the squirrels out of their burrows. It worked LOL

The last 2.5km were into a strong North West Wind.

I decided to do one more invite on Social Media inviting people to come join me for a glass of my wine. In 2018 I partnered with Lomond wine out in the Agulhas region to produce a Single vineyard Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. Geoff McIver, a collector and friend of mine, bought the wine farm from Distell and is doing wonders with the wine maker Hannes Meyer. Its so good even Martin Baule bought a pallet of each from us and shipped it to Germany to distribute to his clients in Europe.

Here is a link to buy online: https://www.richardscott.com/wine/

Here’s to wine. Here’s to the good life!

Until next week
