Richard Scott Blog - 31st December 2023

As you are reading this I realized it is the last day of the year. It’s been a great year filled with lots of amazing stuff. From visiting Paris and proposing to Joanne to launching my Tequila. Thank you for all the support and reading my weekly news.

Monday was Christmas Day and it was bitter sweet. Bitter because we celebrated for the first time without the whole family as we were taking over PLETT. Sweet because we made the best of it and got to swim in the sea. I haven’t swam in the sea like that since I was a kid in Durban. Joanne and I went in nice and deep for an hour or so and Joanne was teaching me how to body surf the waves. It was a whole load of fun. The second time we went in the waves were a lot bigger and more fun, but both Joanne and I had to call it short as the sea was two strong. Joanne got caught in a mini cross tide and struggled to get back and I got dunked by 3 waves in a row and swallowed enough sea water to realize I was out of my depth. Joanne agreed. We spent another hour on the beach and all got a bit sunburnt, but it was worth it.

When I was a kid, there was nothing like this to celebrate Christmas morning with family far away.

Our little Christmas Lunch.

I pulled 5 crackers and didn't win one.

Opening up our one and only Secret Santa gift.

Wayne and Nina popped in to say hello.

As did Phillip Powel.

Catching some rays and waves.

Joanne, the love of my life. Were all dressed up for Christmas.sss

Having some fun with Anton's Shoes.

After the beach we headed home and took a short nap before we headed out to Selwyn and Linda’s for a Christmas Day drink. It was super cool of them to invite us into their home and make us feel like family on Christmas Day. It went a long way. We left early and rested at home before a well deserved early night.

Tuesday was boxing day and we deciced to go in a little later. It was a good call as Plett was a little hung over.

Wednesday we got up early and set up shop. Dani popped in to say hello. It was good to see him in Plett. Dani is the collector who bought my garage door that I painted a tree on. Also good to see Sean and his daughter Indiah.

Hello Indiah and hello Sean.

After a quick catch up, I headed off to play golf with Selwyn, Les and his son Michael at Plettenberg Bay Golf Club. I decided to slow my game down and I shot 12 less than the last time I played. I even had a PAR on the first hole. The Driver Joanne and the kids got me for Christmas was a winner. I had 3 Pars and closest to the pin. I managed to shoot 100. Not bad for me. I was super chuffed. I am definitely gonna play lots more cos I loved it. Selwyn introduced me to Gary Player. That was nice as I remember going to the golf games as a kid and watch him play way back then. After golf I checked in with Joanne and Chad and sales were going well at the shop. They sold 3 red Tequila decanters and a Candy on order. We decided to close up early and head back to the apartment to chill.

Les, Selwyn and Michael on our way home after 18 holes of golf.

Selwyn, the Lefty.

Closest to the pin.

We got a late call from Phillip Powel to pop over for drinks and a braai. It was nice to be invited by friends who make you feel like family.

Phillip showing us how to braai lamb chops and mix drinks.

Thursday we were in early and selling selling selling. It was our busiest day while I was here. People in Plett had obviously had enough of the beach and were shopping. Joanne pointed out that on Christmas Day a lot of people would of opened up their presents and got a Richard Scott and those around them would have got FOMO. LOL.

Yeah, we found a small batch of stickers hidden away.

Thursday Afternoon went well and closed shop at 5pm as it died down. Everyone was taking advantage of the beach. Joanne and I went to get our washing and decided to try the local Indian Take Away next the to Wishy-Washie. We ordered Lamb Curry, Butter Chicken and Vegetable Briani. They were delicious, especially the Lamb. After supper Chad, Joanne and myself decided we didn’t want to take anything home with us so we were gonna run a promotion for the last 2 days. We structure the prices and were so exhausted we did not even play cards of watch Andy Warhol on Netflix. Just a 8.30pm bedtime.

Friday was great. We were in the POP-UP at 7am and selling off the bat. It was another long day and it stretched us all to the limits, but there are now 50+ more Richard Scott disciples in Plettenberg Bay.

Team Scott. And were off.

Our one and only Pool Pillow, SOLD.

Saturday was another cracker. We were in the shop early and it was like we'd become locals overnight. Everyone knew us and greeted us.We packed up the POP-UP and headed back to the pod. Chad packed up and left for home. We went to bed early.

Sunday morning we woke up and Joanne and I decided to head home. Half way home we passed Stillbaai. I said to Joanne "Shall we stay over for a few days?" I went onto Air BnB and found us a place in the mountains, ala, Joanne and Richard Scott style. Pics to follow next weeks blog.

until then
