Richard Scott Blog - 22 October 2022

What a week. Joanne was still sick from Friday night and it lasted right up until Saturday morning. She had a viral  inner ear infection that made her feel dizzy. I committed to a few important meetings on Monday, so I had to head into town. My first meeting was at The Vineyard in Claremont with Mmusi Maimane and his team from his newly formed party BOSA, Build One South Africa. We are helping Mmusi with an event to raise funds. It was good to get stuck in. We decided to get Joan-Anne Harris involved as she is the specialist in the area.

Meet Mike, Konstantin, Selwyn, Mmusi and Alison

After the meeting I spotted Carl Smyth in the foyer and we had a quick catch up chat. I then headed to the Gallery to catch up with the guys and meet with Henry from Art It Is. Henry is always so energetic. So much so that he is now opening a 3rd Gallery. Henry is having his new opening on Thursday night at 5 St. Johns Road, 3 Marine House, Sea Point. Pop in as I will be there.

The Screen Grab says it all. Thanks Henry

Tyrone from Eye Art Gallery posted a cool photo of Blair holding up a 150 x 150cm Richard Scoot Candy Print. I just have to share it with you.

Candy Girls

I headed back home to look after Joanne for the rest of the day, but not before popping in to see Wayne from Melkbos to Morocco in Melkbos to collect a parcel for Joanne that had been delivered. Joanne loves Wayne’s boutique little shop and buys from him frequently.

Meet Wayne from Melkbos to Morocco.

Tuesday was the same. I had to go into town while leaving Joanne on the couch at home. I met up with Selwyn and once again with Davin and Jaren. We are looking at potentially taking the Richard Scott Tequila overseas. It was good to see Brett again. After that It was another quick catch up with the guys before heading back home. We were almost done with the High Road wine barrels. 2 were commissioned by Andre from Woodstock brewery and 2 will be with us at the Plett pop-up shop this year in December. Andre will use his 2 spent High Road wine barrels to produce Sugarman. Sugarman is a red wine barrel fermented stout. Pretty much in the tradition of the Belgian monks who make the world’s best beer.

Meet Henry. What a wonderful man and businessman.

High Road spent wine barrels. Now that is Circular Art right there Mr Weldon. Pop into Woodstock Brewery and take a look see.

Joanne found the energy to make us a yummy supper. Alister King's famous olive chicken and her famous roast potatoes. I was experimenting with some dough I found in the fridge and made olive salt rolls. They were scoffed down.

The nom nom Chicken photo

Zoom Zoom to some more nom nom. Shall we open up a restaurant?

Extra salty Olive Oil bread rolls

Wednesday, I managed to stay at home in the studio. I finished the vote BOSA art piece and everyone loved it.

Doing my bit one small x at a time

Thursday, Joanne was feeling a little better and tried her luck with going in to work. She did ok. I’m glad she went to go see specialist Dr Chris Hofmeyer as he got the Ear Virus diagnosis and advised Joanne to stay off medication as it's not good for her. I headed to the Gallery and had a meeting with Lawrence. Lawrence heads up my Google Ads Campaigns. We are still experimenting to understand and tame the beast called Google Ads.

Meet Lawrence, the GOOGLE Guru

After that I had long meetings with Selwyn to nail down the nitty gritty of the Tequila Launch. It was great. I loved every minute. It's great to have found a partner who believes in the product and is so passionate and connected.

I headed to pick up Joanne and we were both a little tired after a strange week.

Friday was a short day. I had more meetings with the ceramicist and they committed to our delivery order. I will send you some pictures in the week. You are gonna love it.

Joanne got off work at 1pm and went to a staff lunch at Hon Asian opposite the brewery. Craig invited me along which was very nice. Mok makes the best Asian cuisine around. Try it 357 Albert Road Woodstock, just down the road from my Gallery at Woodstock Brewery. After Mok we took over at the Gallery from Angelique for a while and then headed to pick Angelina up for the weekend.

She buried herself into her books as she starts her Matric Final Exams next week.

Joanne put out the menu options and Lentil Bolognaise was chosen. So we ordered in the missing ingredients with Checkers Sixty60 and got cooking. It turned out really good. Dean and Daniella came home as well for the weekend and it was enjoyed all round. We watched the New Zealand vs Argentinian semi final in the Rugby world cup and then headed to bed.

Saturday for some reason Joanne was up early so we decided to go for a walk on the beach and try squeeze in a run on the way back. The wind was blustering and even difficult to walk in. We did manage to run back for 2km which was nice. The kids had just got out the pool when we got home. Nutters.

Windy

We have a pair of Oyster Catchers right on our door step.

And there off as the humans approach. Johan was telling me the reason they are coming back is that they have learnt how to eat mussels and not oysters,

We all sat around the table and had boiled eggs and Lentil Bolognaise. One packet makes so much that it covers 3 meals and still some gets frozen. It's Saturday mid-day and I am sitting looking at the sea while I type up this week’s blog. Yes, it was one of them that I had to look at my phones camera and type it. i.e I didn’t type it every day. Joanne is upstairs and decided to clean out her cupboards. I can hear Angelina in the background making coffee for everyone and the fire crackling. It's not cold, but the wind makes it feel kind of on the edge of winter, and besides I do tend to drag the fire out a bit as it’s the heart of the house and drags the kids out of there rooms every now and again to come sit by it.

Ok, I am off to cook up some burgers for the kids for lunch and then chill on the couch.

Sunday was a lazy day after a late night watching the South Africa vs England game.

This weeks old photo is of me at a work after party back in 1990. 33 odd years ago. I only remember the gentlemen with the John Lennon glasses on. He was my mentor Michael Beamer. Back then we worked for a company called LOG-TEK. LOG-TEK used to do maintenance manuals for the military. You know that book you get when you want to fix your car, well this is the same for all the South African Military vehicles back in the day. I used to be a Technical Illustrator. Back in the day when you did it with a pen and a 3D grid, not with computers like today. I always remember Michael saying take your time and do the difficult drawings. I'll never forget that lesson. Do the hard drawings first, do the easy ones last.

Been a while since I had a LION Lager. 63 kg and fresh out of the Army and my first job.

Until Next Week.
