Richard Scott Blog - 3rd March 2024

Monday, I finished the CAMPS BAY girls piece. It’s an extension of the ROAD SIGN series. I also printed out a 61 x 61cm Purple DJ print for the Bridges for Music Charity auction. I recently closed down my storage unit and am slowly going through the works and cleaning them up. This piece was one of the very first pieces from 2003. Its called 3 Proteas, 100 x 100cm and Impasto and acrylic on canvas. You can see it's an early work due to the simplicity. I am not sure why I chose those colours. I was wracking my brain and all I could come up with is a simple basic art rule of Foreground, Midground (Subject) and background. And in this piece I wanted to make the Background bottle heavy with the darker colours.

Back in the day

Tuesday was the day Joanne and I chose to go see one person each week to get my wine and tequila into restaurants. We chose Mano’s in Green Point as we frequent the place and we know Mano well. He put the Richard Scott Red and White onto his menu and also the Tequila in the Red Ana Decanter. I was so happy. After that we had a quick lunch and headed home. Not much else happened so it was a light supper and an early night.

Sharing food with the love of my life, Joanne.

Excuse the blurry pic. But Joanne spotted some Ghost Pops in the shop and was craving them. Popcorn or Ghost Pops.

Wednesday was a boring admin day, so I wont bore you with all the auditors “End of Financial year” emails and all the excel spreadsheets and files you have to go through. It is therapeutic, I will say that much.

Thursday I decided to give notice on my Shop/Gallery in Woodstock. It is a nice place to be but its time to move on. I think I will do better showcasing people my art and technique and story in my Studio. I just have a gut feel the shop was diluting the brand a little, even though it was actually more a workspace gathering. I also saw a post that Hout Bay gallery did of a sale of one of my Magnetic pieces. The collector chose the pink Ana on the Powder blue Background. I also had another session with Selwyn and closed the chapter on the Tequila decanter in the box. We did that for the Plett pop up and now that was also over. So now I go to Restaurants and Night Clubs as phase 3 of the project.

Pink Ana. The pink metal pieces are attached to the metal plate with Magnets and can be moved around. The piece is coated with Car Duco paint.

Friday, we worked from home. I managed to finish up the 4 pieces from Mano’s. and then Joanne and I were off to Somerset West to spend time with our good friends Tony and Alison. We celebrated with them to 1am and danced the night away celebrating Tony’s 76th Birthday.

Signing the 2 pieces.

Happy 76th Tony.

We were up early Saturday morning and off home to prep for Sunday lunch. We decided on my mom’s Meat and Tattie pie with her famous butter pastry. I made a meat and tattie one and a bean and tattie one for the V’s in the house. The rest of Saturday was cards and backgammon while the kids studied. I took a sneak peak at Angelina 1st year Uni maths and wow wee, its complicated stuff. Anyway Joanne beat me at Backgammon and I returned the favour with Rummy. Then it was Supper time and chill around the fire. It was a tab cold. Joanne also wanted a braai. We haven’t had a braai for ages.

The thing I am 4th best at after being a dad, a soulmate, and artist and a chef.

Braai Master

Sunday we were all standing around the ROCKET coffee machine early. Not a usual sight with the kids, but they were all up early studying. We went for a run on the beach to loosen up our legs from Friday night dancing all night, then Sunday lunch prep and Blog time.

After lunch Joanne and I are off to see my favorite comedian Jimmy Carr.

Making me Mum's famous pastry for the pie.

Until next week
